My sister and her DH are planning a trip to Disney in Oct. They keep insisting they are staying ON property. I am trying to politely tell them technically no they are not. They are staying at the Grosvenor. My sis keeps saying "They told me they are on property and its Downtown Disney".

I don't want to argue with her nor do I really care where she stays. However, she is insisting my parents go and keeps telling them they picked a "disney" hotel and got much better rates than I ever promised.

I do event planning for my company and love to plan trips. So her DH keeps saying I don't know what I'm talking about. I just want to be able to prove I am not lying!

Can someone please point me to a site that explains true "On property" disney resorts?

Thank you! I know this may sound petty and I'm really not trying to be however my disney knowledge is being questioned here!

They are staying on-property, but it is not a Disney resort (meaning Disney doesn't own and operate the Grosvenor).

http://www.wdwinfo.com/downtown/

Basically, "on property" means simply that the hotels are on the land owned by Disney that make up WDW. The Swan, Dolphin, Grosvenor (and the rest of the Hotel Plaza hotels) are all on Disney property but are not owned by Disney.

Try http://www.allearsnet.com/ too! It may also help to inform them that the Grosvenor doesn't qualify for EMH (the number one reason to stay Disney), nor does it get real Disney transportation! It might be an ok way to save some money though, depending on the rates they got.

Okay after swallowing my pride I sent her an email saying I was wrong and linked the sites above.

They are going for a conference and orginally I was trying to take my kids at the same time. Her DH was saying he could get a better deal and still be on property but I had wanted to stay at a Disney Resort. He kept saying they were and I was trying to point out they weren't. They aren't.

For them it is perfect though because they are attending a conference and taking their son to the parks during down time. They don't need the advantages of a Disney Resort.

BIL is one of those "i know everything about everything" and I was just trying to prove my point.

Oh well. Sis and DN will have a great time. :cheer2:

Your sister is correct. S/D, SoG and the DTD hotels are all on Disney owned property. In fact CRO can reserve rooms in the DTD hotels when the Disney owned properties are booked.

I understand what you mean is you don't get the perks you get when you stay at a Disney owned resort. You don't even get the perks you get at the S/D.

Another site you might want to direct them to is the official Disney World website. They list all of the official Disney resorts, and surprise -- the Grosvenor is not one of them. To me, it only makes sense that if it's not on the official website, it's not an official Disney resort. Maybe this will convince them.

Yes, their hotel is on the WDW grounds if you will. However, it is not owned or operated by Disney. It has been our experience that the service at the non-disney on site hotels is notably lower.

Unlike the property on "hotel row" as it is known to WDW CM's, THE WDW SWAN & DOLPHIN resorts DO take part in EMH! They also use REAL DISNEY TRANSPORTATION! :wizard: The Swan/Dolphin are the only two NON-DISNEY resorts ON Disney property, which offer ALL the same DISNEY RESORT perks with the exception of one (key to the world charging using room key). They even offer a FEW wonderful perks, WDW does not! :cloud9: The transportation is lousy for the DTD hotels, :sad2: and she will immediately notice the difference. I would stay value on property (All Stars), before ever staying at the Grosvenor. :confused3 She will miss-out on all the perks associated with the other resorts.

DF--I've stayed in both the Swan and Dolphin. The grotto pool is a close second to SAB. The hotels are up the standards of any of the Disney deluxe hotels. I agree they have more of perks than the DTD hotels BUT AFAIK
the S/D

1) Doesn't offer ME
2) Doesn't offer package delivery from the theme parks
3) Doesn't allow you to purchase MYW Dining
4) Doesn't allow you charge back to your room from WDW restaurants and shops

There are two things you say they claimed.

1. "They keep insisting they are staying ON property"
They are right and you are wrong.

2. "keeps telling them they picked a "disney" hotel and got much better rates than I ever promised"
You are right and they are wrong.

Hey, you are both 50% right, so there you go.
I would just explain to them that yes, they were right and they will be on disney property, but you were right that the hotel isn't owned or operated by Disney so they can't expect to get the same service, themeing, and perks like EMH, ME, and Disney transportation. Explain to them that the prices you gave them were for Disney owned and operated resorts and yes, those are more expensive than places like the Grosvenor.
By the way, I've seen some pretty bad reviews of that hotel, so you may want to warn them about that.

There is no DME (Disney Magic Express~FREE transportation to/from airport/resort) service for SwanDolphin and all the DTD hotels.

I too was just going to post that the Grosvenor has had bad reviews! So hopefully they'll check it out before committing to it.

And hey Fantasia ~ long time no see!! Can't believe how big your kids have gotten! :wave2:

Whether you were right or wrong, I totally relate to you. I too have a BIL who is a know-it-all.

I try t avoid him whenever possible. He is such a know-it-all that even after he is proven wrong, which is most of the time (because he is also ignorant and not too smart) he still will come up with some lame excuse on why he thinks he's right.
