Can someone please help me with a video ripper or converter?? Quick question!

Hey! I have a Sony DVD HandyCam. It uses the miniDVDs. After I finalize them, I insert them into my dvd drive on my desktop and can play them but I cannot pull them into Window Movie Maker to make cute video clips.

So, I researched a little and found a free download called "E.M. Free DVD Copy" and it will let me rip the videos and change them into wmv format but the quality is AWFUL! Very bad!

Any other program I can use that will give me better quality video or is there another way to do this?

Obviously, the whole world can do it b/c we have YouTube and their videos are typically not bad quality. What am I missing?? TIA for any help!

CHeck for a setting of the quality of the files saved.

I have used ulead and pinnacle studios. neither were free. do you have windows movie maker?

Have you tried ripping them directly off the camcorder? The camcorder should have a firewire or USB port. I am also assuming that you have movie maker since you referenced it.

Connect the camera to the PC, open movie maker, then play the video on the camcorder while ripping it right into movie maker.

I used this to rip all my old video 8 tapes to convert them to DVDs.

Yes...I am using Windows Movie Maker and love it!

It is just the quality of the video that I am ripping with the program I described above is not good. What setting should I make it? I am using it to make stuff for my blog and Facebook pages...

I will try hooking it up w/ my USB cable and see what happens...I'll have to find the dern thing...I just really liked being able to pop it in my computer but that is not working...
