Can someone help me with Uy's?

I want to make sure we get the right uy and I'm totally confuse. My husband has to have all of next years (2011) vacation dates figured out by december 1st and turned into his supervisors so they can schedule his vacation days before Jan 1st. We can vacation almost anytime but the kids are getting older and the schools are a big pain to deal with so I know we'll have to do the whole summertime vacations when they get out of elem.

But for now what uy should we pick. I was thinking feb or mar but have no rhyme or reasons to those months.

Pick a UY just prior to the start of your vacation season.

We vacation November - May each year. We don't like the crowds and heat during the summer months. Our UY is October, that gives us plenty of time to bank our points in case we need to.

DH is a fireman and picks out his vacation every December for the coming year. Our guide sold us a Dec UY. We usually vacation Oct-Dec. While this isn't the best UY for our travel plans, it works for me. It helps me keep things straight for the coming year. I would love to plan a trip in March. I won't know if we get that time until January. So to book DVC it will be short notice, but it is what it is. So for our Oct-Dec vacation we will know at the first of year gauranteed and can call at 11 months out. So that is how it works for us. We will just take our chances in Feb/March next year.

I would go with a UY before the summer months in your case. We are in our 40's and do not have children. We have never cancelled a vacation so I am OK with our UY.

I have to gaurantee our dates before I can make a DVC reservation.

No matter what UY you have reservations at your Home Resort may be made as early as 11 months before check-in date you want providing that you will have points that are available & valid to use during your vacation dates
( Home Resort priority booking window is 11 mos through 7mos+1 day before check-in date you'd like; if you want to book at resort that isn't your Home you may book beginning 7mos before check-in )

Once you pick a UY and purchase DVC contract with a particular UY it cannot be changed so if you wanted to switch to a different UY in the future you would have to sell that contract & purchase another with new UY you want or you could keep the contract and buy another with different UY. If you've got young children it's probably good idea to pick a UY that reflects when their school schedules will allow you travel & I agree with poster Toddylu pick a UY before summer months ( either April or June since there isn't May or July UY ). If your DH will know by January what vacation dates he is approved for then I'd go with June UY because banking deadline for June is January 31. Rule of thumb so to speak is try to pick UY where you will not travel during last 4 mos of that UY.
