Hi all. I'm on twitter... like half of the rest of the world... but I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS GOING ON. I know I'm supposed to update my status a lot... and follow people... is that it?? I feel like such an idiot! I just don't get it!! :rotfl::confused3

(just quoting for the new rule, ya know)....

I'm on Twitter too! DDIL's 70 year-old GRANDMOTHER (of all people) got me to join. I don't get it. What do I care what other people are doing every second of the day? And these people who send me emails that they want to follow me? I don't even know them? What would they care what I'm doing - not that I've posted anything on there or anything....

Granny follows Letterman and a few other famous people. I have no desire to know what celebrities are up to....I can screw up my life on my own...don't need anyone else's help.

At least on facebook you can post pictures that you share with family and friends and play games if you like...but twitter?? If you figure it out maybe you can clue me in?

I love Twitter! I follow several news stations (local, a few cities I visit frequently and national news) and I hear about breaking news far quicker than I would otherwise. Often I hear news on Twitter and then several hours later finally hear it on television or other websites.

I also follow a few of my favorite authors. One of them tweeted from the Hugo awards ceremony last night to let fans know that his book had just won. He also tweets about upcoming signings or speaking engagements. A couple of actors I like tweet frequently about new roles they've just gotten. Jon Favreau has been tweeting about the making of Iron Man 2.

I follow a couple of video game news sites and love getting their updates about game reviews and release dates. I follow a few game developers and people involved with Microsoft and they have all sorts of tweets about gaming and they sometimes give away games to their followers. They also ask their followers for feedback about different things and actually seem to appreciate getting info from everyone.

"Shamu" tweets cute pictures from Seaworld or animal trivia. He often gives away shirts or hats to people who answer trivia questions.

And I do follow some friends, as well. But most of them don't tweet things like "Eating a tuna sandwich." They tweet links to things they've found online that they thought were interesting, or other random things that they want to share. I tweet random holidays each day - today is "Lazy Day" and "National S'mores Day". We do sometimes tweet about our day as well, but that's not all that we do.

Twitter isn't for everyone, certainly. But it doesn't just consist of the minutia of everyone's day, which is what many people seem to think.

Sorry I got so long winded about it. Lately I've been trying to explain it to people I know in "real life" who think it's crazy. It's really handy, though, for finding out all kinds of interesting things. I did manage to get my husband hooked on it, and now he follows lots of people though he rarely ever does his own updates.

Some businesses are even getting into twitter lately and are tweeting coupon codes to their followers.

If you are looking for people to follow, one thing I've found handy is to look at who the people I follow are following. I have found that I tend to like lots of the same people/companies that many of the people I follow do.

I got an invitation to join. I did. Now, I have people following me. I have yet to post anything. How odd is that?

Me too! Like I previously posted, how weird is it that people I don't know want to follow me, especially when I have nothing to say. :rotfl: I guess some people have a lot of time on their hands.

Are you making gift baskets again or are you still working at the Disney florist? If you are making baskets, there are probably lots of people who'd love to see your new creations. :)
