60 degrees is warm, wouldn't you say? Not tropical, but WELL above freezing.

So, why is it, my hands and toes are icicles, and it is 60 degrees in my house? I mean, sure, I go outside on a 60 degree day, and the sun warms me, but even if I went in the shade, my hands and feet would not be this cold.

Is an internal 60 degrees different than a sun-warm 60 degrees? I don't get it.

I may have to kick the heat on, because the fire is not catching again.

Good question. I have no clue. I have my house set at nite to 60, and when I get up I am freezing also. (No balmy air walking to the bathroom).

Probably the same reasoning as to why my husband thinks 70 degrees with the air conditioning is hot in the summer. But 70 degrees with the heat on is cold in the winter. Even though 70 degrees is 70 degrees, it never changes.

60 degrees is freezing to me. :cold: Give me a temp around 75-78, and I'd be a happy gal!

I think that what might be happening is, you're not moving around much inside. If you're sitting for awhile, the blood's not pumping as much, so you'd be colder while inside?

Maybe it has to do with sunshine....if we are in FL and it is 60 degrees, no winds and the sun is shining, it feels nice.

But if we are in the house, no sun beaming down on us....it does feel cold.. Maybe there is some scientific explanation for this though...

That is what I am thinking...darn, in my 11th grade chemistry class, I did an expirement showing the difference between soap and detergent. I wonder if I should of done the difference between indoor air and outdoor air temp. I still probably would not know the answer TODAY though! LOL

Considering your body temperature is 98.6, 60 is pretty cold, I would think.

Drink hot liquids, wear a warm hat and layer your clothing and I bet you will warm up a bit.

Insulate your body heat in.

It depends on what you are wearing, too. In the summer 70 degrees in air conditioning is cold to me, but I usually have shorts and a t-shirt on. 70 degrees in the winter is warm but then I have on pants, turtleneck and a sweatshirt. I think, too, that your body acclimates to temperatures gradually so if it is summer and you are used to it being 90 and you have a 60 degree day it is freezing but if it is winter and you are used to it being 20 and you have a 60 degree day it feels balmy.

Like Floridians at WDW wearing winter coats/hats/gloves on a 55 degree day...and New Englanders have on capris and a light jacket.
heheh

our house is set at 64 and it's COLD to me! I layer up all the time.

I call DH the Heat Miser. hehehe

Last year was the first year in this house. Our previous house was newer and really energy efficient and our heat bills were nothing, like $40/month in January. I set the temp here to the same as we had at the old place and was always cold, more drafty here, we need new windows. Finally I said forget it and bumped the temp up about 3 degrees, which really made a difference in how warm it was in here (from 67 degrees to 70 degrees) and never even noticed a difference in our heat bill (gas).
