Can someone explain this Disney Vacation Club to me?

I have heard lots about it but don't really know how it works. We only go to Disneyland, never DW. And we go about once a year, although we could go more. Is this worth it for us?

Disney Vacation Club is Disney's version of a timeshare program. But instead of buying a certain week at a particular resort, instead you buy some number of "points", and then can use the points to stay at any of the DVC resorts as well as other Disney hotels, Disney cruises, and even non-Disney properties. Different sized accommodations take a different number of points/night, and the number of points required also varies by time of year - costs more to stay the week before Easter (spring break!) than it does the third week of September (low season).

You get the most value out of your points by staying at a DVC resort. Since Disneyland does not currently have any DVC resorts (though there are rumors that they will build one at the Grand Californian), I don't think it makes sense to buy into DVC if you're only going to visit Disneyland. While you can use your points at the three Disneyland resort hotels, I don't think it's a very effective use of them.

There's a whole section of DVC boards here on Disboards, and I'm sure there are FAQs about DVC someplace, though I didn't see any in a quick look at the DVC boards. But if you asked over there, on the planning board probably, I'm sure you'd receive lots of input.

Hope that helps.

There is LOTS of great info on the DVC section of the boards about DVC. If you have other specific questions I would definitely start there. I am already a DVC member, but I am waiting patiently for them to announce they are going to build a DVC at DL. I am not ready to do an add-on yet, so I am OK with them not annoucing it yet ;)

Definitely wander over to the DVC boards and also check out the DVC page at allears. In my opinion, if your travel habits are just as you say, I would say skip it. Although you can use your points at many II timeshares around the world, you may be better off buying into another "brand" of time share if you only really visit DLR of all the Disney destinations because your home resort would be at WDW. We have been members for only a year now, but have used our points at GCH and SSR at WDW. We plan on visiting WDW at least once a year and DLR probably about once every two years. Look into it and decide for yourself. You can always call DVC, too. They are VERY low pressure sales...explain your travel habits and I think they'll be very upfront with you.

My other suggestion, go visit WDW!!! Get the best of both worlds!
