Can someone explain pin trading?

Queenbillabong, I'll share my list of good eBayers with you (mine is pretty small lol) if you share yours with me. :)

I don't rely on feedback, I instead chose my sellers based on their return policy. If they accept returns I will make the purchase and then if I can determine the pin is fake I'll return it. Many buyers don't realize the pins are fake until well after they have left feedback. If anyone else wants my (really small) list of sellers from eBay let me know, I'll be happy to share via PM's. :)

I too love trading with kids, they are open, honest and don't try to swindle you. LOL Many times I've given pins away to kids that are just starting out, their parents are usually very Thankful and so are the kids.

Pixiewings, I would love to swap eBay seller lists with you! It's always good to know that others have found trusted pin sellers as well - they can certainly be hard to come by. I also choose those with guarantees on the pins and return policy, good s/h rates (I hate paying $2 for a pin and then being charged $10 for s/h!!). There are honest people out there and deals to be had, sometimes you just have to search.

I personally don't like the grab bags at mousepinsonline.com because they do include Pro-Pins - which I am not a fan of. They also do not have a clearly stated guarantee or return policy (that I can find, at least;-).

I've never had any problems with my Mousepins orders. Everything has always been proved authentic. and see, I do like Propins, not all of them but I've kept quite a few that I've ordered. They aren't as fancy but they are still cute. :) I hear you on the shipping, I always figure out my max bid by adding in shipping and then sticking to it. :) I have been lucky by ending up paying under $2 per pin. :) I'll PM you.

i dont care what pro pins are if there took by disney then im good and all my pins have been i kept alot couse who they had on them or they were cute. but had like 30 to trade.. not bad
I just got a email talkign about there grab bag and there able to keep the price down for longer time hehe i like them

i dont trust ebay i like mousepins.com they seem to always have the best sells on there grab bags. and I know there pins arent the bad ones so thats a good thing were gona buy 50 before we go maybe 75
mousepins.com??
It doesn't work... am I typing in the wrong address?

Wow, I had no idea that this was such a huge phenomenon!

I have another question: where can I get a pin book or lanyard?

Hey there! Well, my mom brought me back a lanyard from WDW (which I use for my work badge)...anywhoo, that's what I'm using for my pins!

I would think they sell them at DL, and basically any online Disney merchandise site! HTH :thumbsup2

Ok, I'm thinking about pin trading as well. Can someone give me the lowdown on the aforementioned "Pro-pins" and "Sedesma" pins? How are they inferior, and how do I know if it's these ones I'm buying/trading?

TIA!

I dont do pin trading, but I do buy some pins. I only buy pins that actually have a meaning to me, for example, if I am DL for Halloween, I will buy a pin that says DLR Halloween 2008, etc. In 2006 (I think), DL released the Remember When series, 1 pin each month, all surprise pins, form former attractions. I bought 6 of the 12, I only bought the 6 of the attractions that I remembered, ex. PeopleMovers, Skyway, Subs, Country Bear Jamboree, etc. I do occasionally buy pins from work (cause I get great deals), but only if they are super cute!!
I have also purcshased some off of ebay for my DL map pin set.

Warning: Pin Trading is addictive.

My SIL made fun of our lanyard and pins..yeah..now she's a pin shark.:rotfl:

I buy my kids pins on ebay, ususally lot of 10 or 20. I put it out with their Tinkerbell gifts the first morning. Helps with the gimmees when we pass a pin cart.

I read the seller's feedback before buying and I usually won't buy if it says made in Spain.
I'm happy if I can get them for about $2 per pin.

But don't get pins they will like because they won't want to trade them.
I made the mistake of giving my 4 yr old a Goofy and pirate Mickey pin and when it came time to trade he didn't want to part with any of his pins.

Be sure to get the locking pin backs though, we seem to lose pins while boarding and exiting rides.

Also, check out the disney pin trading site before you go so you know the approximate value of your pins.
You wouldn't want to trade a YOMD or Hidden Mickey pin for a generic junky pin.

We keep the valuable and sentimental pins on display at home to keep lost pin meltdowns from occurring..I mean mine not the kids:furious:

Have fun trading!

First, I'm an adult and the only one in my party trading pins. What do you think is a reasonable number to start? I have two Mickeys already from a YOMD lanyard I just bought today on DisneyShopping.com.

You might be surprised, we can easily trade 25 or more pins each, and that's just over a 2 day trip!! LOL DBF collects Alice pins, if he sees them he trades for them, I collect Tink, Maleficent, Cheshire Cat and pirates. Pro Pins are "inferior" because they are smooth, the finish is a solid smooth surface. Pins you buy at DL or from disneyshopping.com have a rougher finish, you can tell the difference. The Sedesma pins are really cheap, they look cheap and they feel cheap. CM's are not supposed to have them on their lanyards but they do occasionally, I have a Tink and Jiminy that were traded for from CM's. I traded for them because I like them, well the Jiminy my DD8 traded for, then she gave it to me so now I have to keep it. :) I wouldn't try to trade it back anyway. :)

NWPrincess- I can fit about 15 pins on my lanyard, depending on the size of each pin. I have only traded with CM's a few times because I'm very attached to my pins. I often look and if there is something I'd like to trade I'll ask.
My kids are the ones who run up to CM's wearing green lanyards to check out their pins.
I have a picture of my son conducting his very first trade.

Don't forget pin etiquette though. It's pretty much common sense, always ask if you can look at the person's pins, don't touch their lanyard without asking first.
Some women might think you're trying to get fresh:rolleyes1

i traded well over 30 last time my son did 20-25 him self. my DH well he let us have more fun and ended up give me and my son some his pins lol i think we each had 20. then we spend 100 world of disney just on pins. it adds up fast.

$100 on pins? It does add up fast!

New pins usually cost $6 or so to about $12 (and more) each, so it does add up very fast to buy new pins at Disneyland!

I don't like to carry too many pins on a lanyard at one time because the darn thing gets so heavy around your neck! You have to be careful with the black rubber backs - I almost lost a couple of pins when I was walking. I noticed some little black things falling on the ground and then I realized it was from my pins! Yikes!

I swear this happens to us every trip. We're buying the locking backs next time. I need to write it down too, or I'll forget!!

We use locking backs too. My keeper lanyard is full of pins with locking backs, my traders I do use the Mickey backs because it's easier to get them on and off. :)

When we go we each pick one pin, if we don't find one we like we don't get it. I can easily spend well over $100 on pins at DL, that's why we use eBay or mousepinsonline for traders. :)
