Hi

I am going to Disneyworld June 14th for two weeks and was hoping someone would explain Pin Trading to me.

On our last visit I bought DD6 a set of princess pins (all the same) and a lanyard they were all the same so I guess this is were the trading comes in!

My main questions are what if she finds a pin she really likes and doesnt want to swap it?

Will cast members swap any of there pins?

Thanks

Andrea

No guest is EVER required to trade a pin they don't want to trade. However, cast members ARE required to trade upon request, as long as the pin the guest has is a genuine Disney pin and the CM does not currently have that pin on their lanyard.

It's a fun way to interact with CMs. We've never even tried trading with other guests, and never been asked to trade by other guests. In the days leading up to our trip, our then 6-year-old and 4-year-old were almost more excited about pin trading than they were about going to the parks.

My daughter, now 9, started pin trading on our second trip when she was 6. She loves it and really looks forward to it each year. The cast members are always wonderful about it and on more than one occasion have been more than generous! Santa occasionally checks ebay throughout the year and when pins are cheap he grabs them, puts them together in a little package with a note to have fun trading! It is so fun to watch her as she checks out the pins and makes her decisions through the trip. :goodvibes

What is the color of CM lanyard used for kids only pin trading? I accidentally asked a CM who had one on and he told me it was kids only. I had known that but can never remember what color is designated as kids only.

I think the kids trading CM's wear a green lanyard.

So what is the best way to get started with this....I read the attached link above and it talked about a starter kit - but I didn't see where to get that. Is it something we should shop for in WDW or can I get some pins and a lanyard online?

The only place I've ever seen those starter kits are at WDW (in all of the Pin Stations and most stores, so they're REALLY easy to find). You can also make your own "starter," just by picking out a lanyard you like and getting a handful of the less expensive pins.

I'm sure you could also get pins and lanyards and stuff on eBay.

We are more pin *collectors* rather than *traders*; buying pins of our favorite characters or attractions.

On ebay you can get pins that are tradeable for about $3 each, sometimes less. Just be aware that sedesma, and other disneyland country pins may not be tradeable with a CM, although other guests may want them. And to trade with a CM it must not be all scratched up. And yes it is addicting. I am now buying larger lots to trade and sets to keep on ebay.

Hi there!:wave2:
My kids and I will also be in WDW 6/15-6/25. Pin trading is fun. On our last trip I just bought them each a few pins to get started, and they had a blast. My son (he was 9 at the time) really got into it. It was a good excuse for him to talk to the "pretty" cast members ;)

Hope you have a great trip!

I not only have "official" Disney pins, but a few "unDisney" ones; A pin of the US flag is always popular, and a few CM's prefer them. I had a POW/MIA pin a CM loved (he was a vet) and I insisted he have it. He wanted to exchange two for it, but he deserved it "free":thumbsup2 .
DD12:cutie: had a few buttons; smiley face, it's my birthday, etc. she got at different times and includes them on her lanyard..... Try some different stuff, you'd be surprised how much fun it can be!

Easter @ CSR  5 days and counting! :cool1:

My son will stop to trade pins 100 times a day if we let him. He loves trading pins more than the rides.
