Can someone explain how Room Only works?

Having ONLY ever booked packages in the past, I am a little perplexed about Room Only.
Also......I cannot get the resort we hoped for with free dining, so I am thinking of just holding off for a R/O discount.

So, I assume Room Only means just that.
But, if we want/need ofcourse tickets and dining........how do we add those?Because adding them would then make everything a package correct?

You can actually book the same type of package as you always have. The room portion of the package will be discounted but you will pay full price for tickets & any dining plan you add.

If you book thru the online special offers page. You would select your room & then you can add options for tickets & dining plans. If you call, just tell the agent what you want.

Yup, you can book the package as you normally do. When the RO comes out, it will be applied to the nights that are included in the offer. I am going 11/5-11/14 so free dining was out for me (and I am happy it was), so I am at least hoping for a RO discount in the near future for my stay at POR Royal Room.

If you are buying tickets, get them from Undercover Tourist. They are cheaper and legitimate. I don't use free dining because I come out cheaper with the room discount and the discount from UT. Also, I don't eat the way the dining plan is set up, so I save that way too. When I price out, free dining is always more expensive (but we usually stay deluxe).

If you add the dining plan, yes you end up with a package. But if you don't you don't have to have a package. Buy from Disney, buy from undercovertourist, etc, add the tickets to your MDE, it doesn't automatically make it a package.

But if the dining plan really works for you financially and the way you eat, then just book a package.

Can I ask a related question? If a RO (or AP) discount comes out, does it apply to previously booked rooms? I am looking at a room for three nights as part of a split stay, and want a monorail room. Surprisingly, PVB studio is less than any hotel room ($464/night). If I book it now, can I apply RO later assuming one comes out for my dates (mid november)?
