I don't quite understand. Say a DVC member wants to try for a resort for nightly exchange (say 3 or 4 nights) how far in advance would you try to do this??? Like if we wanted to try and book a few nights at a RCI beach resort at Virginia Beach this summer.....how do we go about that? Thanks

Nightly RCI exchanges can be booked up to 10 months out from your desired check-in date. You call MS and have them check availability for your dates and location.

If they are available at said resort...then they take the points just like if we booked a villa at Disney?? So if I wanted to book 4 nights in July at said resort and the dates were available....they take the points needed for that ressie plus the 95 buck fee?? Thanks

Yep. With nightly there is no option to wait list if there is no availability.

But there is almost always an extra housekeeping fee even if the fee is not listed on the website.

Earlier the better (9-10 months out). Call member services.

sorry, but it is VERY unlikely that you will get anything in VA beach for this summer--and uncertain for next summer, unless early June/ late Aug. Many of the resorts available will only be for weeklong bookings. Less than weekly stays are thru RCI points, which is a different inventory than RCI weeks. You would want to start searching as soon as you can. For RCI points, 10 months is the earliest that RCI points can be reserved (vs. RCI weeks--which is 2 years). For RCI points members, we cannot search, we have to look online or call everyday, so I don't know if you can put in a search thru DVC for nightly stays at 10 or 11 months, or not.
It is not like DVC, where there are lots of units and you just call and book. Someone who owns a week (or own points at that resort) has to have decided to put them in the RCI exchange pool--many who own summer VA beach bought them to use it, so many summer weeks are booked by owners. But, since you are local, and don't need airfare, might as well try. Good luck. Elaine

RCI POINTS:

Rather than buying a set week vacation slot, where you vacation from Sunday through till Sunday, you buy points which you can later exchange for vacation slots. This gives you flexibility as to your location, the date and length of your vacation and even the type and size of accommodation.

RCI Points also offers some significant advantages over the regular RCI Weeks program when it comes to exchanges. For example, if you are traveling at the last minute you can grab some "weeks" with your points and they come with a big discount, like 9K points plus the exchange fee.

Thanks everyone............ I appreciate the explanations. Now I understand. :thumbsup2 I was not sure how it worked and how hard/easy it was to try.
