Can someone explain ebates please?

I only used them a little last year, but this year I'm determined to use them more often. So, I have a few questions I was hoping ebate users could answer for me.

First off, I ordered 2 books for my husband from Chapters in Canada. I went through ebates which said (still does) "1% on Gift Cards 2.5% on Music, DVDs. 5% on Bargain Books, iRewards, Toys, Gifts, Books"

I thought my order of $41.54 (pre-tax) would net $2.077 (2.08) from ebates. They have recorded my order as $40.21 ($1.33 difference) and only gave $1.01 back (2.5%)

What am I missing or not understanding with this? When I click on "special conditions" it says there 1% to 5% cash back. How does one figure out what % of cashback you will get on an order if it's not stated up front?
 
Moving along to iTunes... it was not until last night that I realized just how MANY stores are available through ebates! I'm kicking myself after seeing iTunes on there. My daughter received about $100 worth of iTunes gift cards and has used most of them already.

So.. the way I see ebates working with iTunes, when I click on "shop now" it opens a tracking #, then wants to launch iTunes and goes straight into the store. At this point, any purchases my daughter or I make will receive the cashback through ebates? Have other people successfully done this with iTunes?
 
I've been using ebates for a few years as well, but lately I've been getting better rewards on mypoints. Are you in Canada? Could the discrepancy be between the US and CAD amounts?
I just tried clicking on the info for the Chapters store, and I can see your confusion too; you might be best to email ebates for clarification. I've emailed them on items and they're pretty good at responding quickly.
 
I have found their customer service to be very helpful if you have found that there may be a mistake. I would send them an email with details, and copy and paste your email confirmation of your purchase into the body of your complaint.

Good luck! I have used ebates for awhile and haven't had any problems. The cash back is nice when you are going to buy anyway.

That's a good point. I am in Canada so maybe? :confused3 It's a $1 difference though and I don't think the exchange would be that high.

I e-mailed last night and I have a response already. They want me to send them a copy of the purchase confirmation so they can look into it. I'll let you know what happens.

I haven't used eBates yet for iTunes, but I do use a different rewards site and I imagine that they work the same way.

When you click on the iTunes link from eBates, it opens (or asks to open) iTunes on your computer. This is how it gets you to the iTunes store. Just shop as you normally would and you should get your credit. It does seem a little more complicated with iTunes, but I have found eBates to have great customer service and they handle issues quickly.
 
I beleive Ebates has been having problems lately. I previously had orders for which I did not receive credit, although I contacted customer service for one or two of them. I was told I would have to wait three weeks before they would even investigate. I have placed three orders through Ebates since Saturday and none have credited right.

On Saturday, for instance, I placed a large order with Macy's through Ebates and got nothing from Ebates. I was contacted several days later by Ebates and told there was a problem with Macy's orders placed during the last week. That order appears to have been fixed for me after I sent the Macy's order confirmation to Ebates. However, I also ordered from Target and Kohls, and those have not shown up yet, despite the "tracking tickets" feature on Ebates showing I linked to both sites prior to the orders. The only coupons I used were the ones from which I linked on Ebates.

I'm so frustrated I'm about ready to switch to another company.
