The college I'm transferring to next year says they participate in the Disney College Program. Can someone explain what it is in simple terms? My school site isn't too helpful.
Mostly I'm wondering:

Is it a job or internship?
Do they pay you, or do you pay them?
Is it school/classes in Disney?
Do you live at Disney?
Is it only during breaks (summer or winter)?
Do they accept/accomidate people with disabilities?

Thanks if anyone can help!

The college program is where you go down and work for Disney. It is more of a job then an internship and yes they pay you but you have to pay them for rent, it comes directly out of ur paycheck every week and the amount depends on what complex you live in and how many bedrooms are in the apartment. The pay is a little above minimum wage and minimum wage is $6.79 an hour in FL. You have the option to take a class down there if you choose, i tried to take the class but it just was too much for me. The college program runs on a semester basis or a quarter basis which means you can go january to june, march to august, june to july and i think august to january. Yes they do accept people who have dissabilitites. My roommate was hearing impared and they provided her with a sign language translator and she also had a special alarm clock and fire alarm for her bedroom. When you apply for the program they allow you to select from an option of different job areas, such as operations, custodial, housekeeping, entertainment, quick serve food and beverage, lifeguard, and many others. Their site has a lot of information on it: www.disneycollegeprogram.com.
Hope this helps!

Just finished my College Program, and now Im a campus rep, so I hope I can help.

Depending on your major, it could be an internship. For example, at my school, for my major it does not count as an internship, but for other majors it does. You can take classes, and thats what usually makes it an internship, check with your advisor for specifics. You do get paid! You do have to pay rent (at Disney housing), and buy your own food, however. The programs actually run through the semesters, ie Spring or Fall. I did the Spring Advantage, and I was there from Jan thru Aug. A lot of people were there from Jan til May, though. They have to make accomidations for people with disabilities, as per ADA. In fact, they have handicap parking spaces, and apartments on the ground floor. Your recruiter for the college program would have more information on accomidations.

If you have more questions, go ahead and ask! ^_^ I loved my program, and I'm looking forward to going back!

Well, it is a job (since you are working). But it is also an internship with WDW.

You are paid. The pay amount depends on the role you have (different roles have different amounts).

You are not required to take any of the classes. Some people do, but you don't have to.

Yes. You live in apartment-style housing.

No. The length of the CP runs from 4.5 months (Jan-May, or Aug-early Jan) to about 7.5 months (Jan-Aug, or May-early Jan). Once you finish the CP, then you are eligable to do a Summer Alumni program if it is offered (May-Aug). You can also work seasonally, and go down on breaks or whenever.

Yes they do.

The school I'm tranferring to is so cool! They give 12 credits per semester for being in the disney college program! I can be full time student while living in Disney *swoons*

I see you are in NJ. What school are you transfering to? My school also gives 12 credits for doing the CP (I go to Montclair State).

Montclair. :)
I'm considering trying to go to Disney before transferring, and doing online courses for my current school whilst I'm down in FL.

Woohoo!! That's my school!!

WOW! You both are EXTREMELY lucky to be getting that much credit for the college program. My school refused to give credit - and as a campus rep I found that most of the schools up here do not give credit. You're very lucky!!!

Yeah, I agree. I feel so lucky that Montclair gives so much credit for the internships. Otherwise I never would have been able to take 2 semesters off for my CPs.

That's my plan too!!!!! Here at Jones Junior College in MS, we can take a plethora of online classes.:cool1:

Just thought I'd add that if you do the Disneyland program, you are required to take a class, in WDW it is optional. I had noticed someone said you didnt have to, and I thought Id add that.

I definetely intend on going to disney world, not disneyland. Partly because if I'm living in disney world I can go see my grandma on my days off. :goodvibes
