I am looking into going to disney the second week in may. Id love to book something, so it feels real....plus, WHY NOT.

anyway, I was thinking I would book room only and then if an AP rate came down the pike, I would buy an AP to get the discount. Can I do that, or do I have to specify I have an AP at the time I reserve the room?

also, is it true if I book room only, they only take a deposit for the first night? the rest is charged on check in? can I choose to switch resorts at any point? I want to reserve WL, but if a good code doesnt come out between now and then (AP or otherwise) we may consider CBR instead.

do these questions make sense?

I always book through dreamsunlimitedtravel.com It's free, and they take care of checking on codes for you. I booked with them for this coming June already and told them I have an AP (which I don't have yet). You only need the AP upon check-in, so don't worry about running out and buying one just to make the ressie. With dreams unlimited the required deposit is the price of one night per room. I've always paid everything right away, so I'm not sure when the payments are required after that.

You can do all the booking yourself and make the changes you need. If you book room-only, you only have to put down 1 night as a deposit. The balance is due at check-in. If a code comes out, you can apply it to your existing reservation. You can also change resorts or even dates at any time. You can cancel and get a full refund up to 5 days before check-in. You can do all of these things by calling CRO.

thanks for the responses

Im still a little confused. I know you dont need the AP till checkin, but if there isnt a code for an AP, I dont plan on buying one EVER....is this a problem? of can I just make a regular reservation and change to an AP discount later?

and I plan on just using CRO, I like when I have COMPLETE CONTROL, hehehe

You can make a regular reservation and change to the AP room only rate, if one becomes available. Do don't need the AP when making the reservation for the AP rate.

If you switch the room to the WL, the deposit will follow to that reservation. I agree with you, I like to have control of my reservation.

You can change to any discounted rate if rooms are available for that particular discount....I would not even buy an AP until the day before I go down there....on an off chance that an even better room only code may come out. Sometimes Disney offers special rates to residents of bordering states if they're underbooked for a particular season. If you snag an AP rate...just hold on to it and don't rush out and buy it until you get down there or just before you go...

Keep calling weekly or biweekly to see if there are any rates or keep your email posted for updates from some of the discount seekers (mousesavers, allearsnet, etc.)

I booked our reservation for BWI- deluxe Concierge on standard rack rates(via the internet). When the AP codes came out I phoned & was informed that I had to have a NEW reservation to get the AP rate. She booked my new reservation with the AP rate (saving me $100/night) and then cancelled my old reservation, refunding me the 1 nights deposit.

As noted previously above, 1 nights deposit is due at time of reservation, remainder due at check-in. You must cancel 5 days in advance to get your deposit back.

It states clearly on my reservation receipt-- "eligible annual/season pass required at check in" I also have the room in my name as I am the guest with the AP, my husband does not have an AP

Also...I stayed at YC on an AP rate in Feb 2004 and they did not ask for my AP on check-in. At that point I just had the receipt as I had purchased it on the internet and was picking up the actual pass the next day.

Just my experience...
