Can someone check my thinking on waitlist and booking rooms

I have 7 nights lake view studio at BLT right after Thanksgiving. I want one more night. I have a wait list set up to expire at 7 days. About a week ago I saw a one bedroom value at Jumbo for 21 points. (lake view at BLT is 19 for same night). This morning I saw a value studio at Jumbo for 11 point. Just purely on point usage, the value studio is safer, right????

If waitlist doesnt' come through, I just pay the 11 points for Jumbo, if it does come through, DVC just takes extra points for BLT, right?

If I stick with the one bedroom, I could have points going into holding, correct?

Having the waitlist set at 7 days in just confusing me. I doubt we'd ever make a trip within 60 days, so holding points would most likely be lost. But 2 lost points wouldn't be terrible.

Making a waitlist that ends 7 days before check in makes sense if you're adding a night without having booked a DVC back up room or if the new reservation will replace one that required fewer points.

Now, on to your other questions.

DVC will not automatically replace an existing reservation with a waitlist request unless you specified that when you set up the waitlist. You would need to call MS to have the substitution noted on your waitlist if you didn't do this on setup.

If you book a room that requires more points and your waitlist comes thru less than 31 days out to replace that night, the excess points go into holding.
 
Just talked to chat. Cancelled the one bedroom value (21points) and he noted if the waitlist comes through to cancel the value studio (11 points ) and use for BLT room (19 points)
