In the Senate Republicans and Democrats each hold 49 seats, one is held by an independant, and an independant was recently appointed by Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura to fill the seat left vacant by the sudden death of senator Wellstone ( this appointment is temporary-winner of today's election will be in this seat).
