Can second driver pick up rental car?

I have reserved in my name and the confirmation states that there is no charge for second drivers. I would like DH to be the second driver.

We are flying in separately. If I get bumped or miss a connecting flight, will he be able to pick up the rental car without me there? Is there a way to add him to the reservation in advance or does that need to happen at the counter?

The person whose name is on the contract has to sign the contract. They have to redo the contract in his name. Not sure if they can redo the contract and keep your reservation rate.

Normally I don't like making extra reservations but you might make a second reservation in DH name. Make sure you don't have any penalties and try to remember to cancel the 2nd reservation when the first person picks up the car.

This happened to us at Christmas time. We got split up at the airport enroute to Las Vegas (don't ask, it's a long story). I called ahead to the car rental place and explained what had happened and asked if my husband could pick up the car as he would be arriving before me.

They made the notation and he picked it up without a problem without my being there.
