I'm sure someone knows the answer. We rented points for a stay in a couple weeks. Unfortunately I am "on the clock" as I am pregnant and due Christmas day. My grandmother just had a stroke this past weekend and it looks like we may lose my parents companionship. We have DD3 and DS16mos. If there is availability, is it a problem to move the ressie back a few weeks without penalty? I don't want to contact the member yet as they are overseas. Thank you in advance for your time. Amy

The only way to even see if this can be done is to contact the member. They will have to contact MS to see if there is availability for the time you want. If there is no availability, you won't be able to change it. If you have a contract with the member, you need to check your contract about cancellations and changes. They may not allow either.

Sorry about your family concerns.

There is no penalty for changing a reservation. It is all dependant on availability at the time the member calls to try to make the change for you.

It sounds like you are wanting to move it back into October and will be dealing with the Food & Wine Festival where there has been little or no availability for months now.

Until you contact the member you rented from and they contact MS, there is no way to know what your options might be.

Good luck, hopefully it will all work out for you.

You are probably aware, but if a DVC member cancels a reservation within 30 days of check-in, the points are subject to some pretty severe restrictions.

I just wanted you to be aware of this in case the member doesn't seem to want to "work with you" on payments, etc. It might seem that the member is being harsh, but that member will probably have a tough time using the points if a cancellation happens at this late date.

Best wishes to you on your situation.

Also, if you are moving from September (a few weeks from now) into October (a few weeks later), you'll be in a different season for points. That means that the same reservation will cost more points - so no penalty, but you may be moving to a more expensive season and will need to cover the difference. The member you rented from may not have more points available.

DVC is very cool, but it isn't very flexibable, particularly in this sort of circumstance (rented points, short notice, a trip that needs to take place during DVC busy season.)

Well, so far, you've got possible availability issues, 30-day cancellation issues, and increased point cost issues, all of which are legitimate. So I'll throw one more issue at you -- use year.

Your owner's points could be expiring, or passing a banking deadline which would adversely affect their ability to work with you. It's often not just a matter of being cooperative, they may have some real reasons why they CAN'T help you.

As Doc and others have already said, you need to get ahold of the owner ASAP and see what, if anything, they can do to help.

also where you are renting (which DVC resort) you may have to move to another if there is availability.

So if your at say BCV/BWV you may end up at SSR/ OKW since they are the largest resorts and therefore maybe lower pts which means the member will have left over pts that you will most likely have to pay for anyway. :)

good luck

Thank you for all of your answers. Not worried about the money, but all of your issues are valid. I just didn't want the member to put in the time to call MS for availability if nothing could even be moved. We are planning on going by ourselves no matter what...we just need 4 hands each instead of 2!! Thanks again. Amy

Best of luck. We went with two toddlers (3 1/2 and 2 1/2) on our first trip with kids. Plan on plenty of time (particularly if you are pregnant) and enjoy the resort as much as you can. If you can keep them in strollers, it won't be as bad as you think......
