Can OBC be used to pay deposit for next cruise?

Just realized I never thought of doing that before. About to leave for Bermuda (presumably?) and I have $325 OBC that I doubt we’ll spend on drinks, etc. - really hoping I can apply towards next cruise!

As far as I know, yes - because you can charge it to your stateroom account.

I believe one of the only credits that couldn't be used for that was the old Disney Visa credit that disappeared back in 2017 I think. That had stipulations about what it could/couldn't be used for. Something to the effect of it have to be used for beverages (maybe worked at Palo/Remy too?) on-board. Couldn't be used at spa/shutters/gratuities etc.

Someone can probably provide a for sure answer though.

Onboard bookings are paid separately from your stateroom account, so I don't think you can use an onboard credit to pay for them.

Your OBC can be used for gratuities, excursions, Palo meals, and spa treatments, in addition to drinks, though.

Agreed with Mommb, an onboard booking requires a credit card from what I recall and does not show up on your onboard account. Definitely can go toward gratuities, any shopping you do, Bingo, liquor tastings, etc.

Is your OBC from a Disney Gift Card? I book my placeholders with DGCs. If there is a way to get that OBC onto a gift card then you can use it towards your deposit.
Another option may be to purchase a gift card from one of the shops if they still have them in there using your OBC and then use that gift card towards deposit.

I had thought we charged it to our stateroom account, but maybe they just asked us - "Would you like to use the same credit card that is associated with your stateroom account?". Which I would've said yes to. I was only half paying attention, likely dreaming of our next cruise.

I think I was in the same mental state when I did mine! Must be a common condition.

OBB or placeholder deposits are charged to one of the following:
- the credit card on file for your stateroom charges (not directly to the stateroom account)
- a Disney gift card provided at the time you visit the vacation planning desk
- a different credit card that you provide if you elect not to use the credit card associated with your stateroom.

You will be asked if it’s okay to charge the deposit to the card on file and can elect to change the form of payment at that time. The primary reason for using this approach rather than just charging to the room is so that DCL could post any refunds to whatever form of payment was used for the deposit. This might occur if you cancelled out of the cruise, never used a placeholder, etc. The stateroom charge would not support such a refund after you completed the cruise since the account gets closed out at that time. You cannot even carry over unused credits or charges to the second leg of a b2b cruise.

The suggestion to use a stateroom credit to purchase a Disney gift card at one of the shops, charging the purchase to your stateroom account, sounds like a good idea to me, since that is a usable form of payment for a placeholder or part of a cruise deposit. Be sure to keep the gift card in case there is a need for it later if a refund is due.

Yes, that is it. They ask if you want it charged to the same card as on your account.

Hmm well apparently I need to start drinking then 😂😂😂

You used to be able to purchase a Disney Gift Card on board - I know at least the Wonder stopped it for a while because a CM stole a lot loaded to take his family to Disney, not sure if that is still the way it is or not.

But if it's still possible you could purchase a gift card with OBC and use that.

you either have to use a credit card that is on file or use cash. Was on the ship 2 weeks ago and had funds I had put on our account prior to the cruise using Disney Gift Cards. They would not let me use those funds. I had to give them $250 cash to book the placeholder. I got the remaining balance at the end of the ship when i cleared Customer Service. I did not see anywhere on board where you could purchase their Gift Cards, not saying they don't sell anymore. Just didn't see any sitting by the registers as previous years.

if you have a Disney gift card that has enough on it for the deposit (advance planning) you can use that at the desk.

as I said, a few years ago a CM was busted for stealing thousands of dollars using gift cards so I know at least the Wonder stopped selling them. I do not know if the other ships did since, as I said, I plan ahead and have my gift card ready to go.

Just got off the Magic...and I can confirm you can NOT use OBC for your deposit. :)

Agreed with that; I had a $1,000 gift card in my pocket consolidated off of a bunch of small ones that I used for the downpayment for my next cruise.
