My Friend wants to try a dessert on menu at Coral Reef but I hate to spend bigggggggggg $$$$$$$$ on food I hate, at a rest. that I read has gotten crappy reviews for service and food.

I'd be more than happy to call in a take out dessert order for her and let her eat it on bench in Epcot.

Dont know if it's like this everywhere....but:

I am deeply in love with the Grapefruit Cake at Brown Derby. I know you can ask next door at Starring Rolls for a slice of this heaven, but alas.... they were already closed.

I went next door to Brown Derby and about offered them my children as a sacrifice for a slice of this cake. To no avail.

No To-Go. :guilty:

Go in the middle of the afternoon, latest lunch hours and tell the hostess you'd just like dessert. Chances are they'll be able to seat you.

My friend and I often have this dilemma. Go during off peak hours, and tell the CM that you just want dessert. Coral Reef gets a lot of negative reviews, but the atmosphere is very cool, especially if you can go in for a mid-afternoon break! The blues and greens are a nice respite from the hot sun.

By the way, if it's for the Chocolate Wave, it'll be worth it! :Pinkbounc

Exact same thing happened to my D-I-L and I last Sept. We desperately wanted a pice of that grapefruit cake to eat during Fantasmic, but were denied. Don't know about Coral Reef. I do know that May '05 a couple was irate because Mama Melrose's was not accepting walk ups, so they tried to order their meal as take out and were denied, both by the CM at the check in desk and a few minutes later by the manager himself.

Wow, we had no problem getting a "to go" slice of grapefruit cake. I wonder if they changed their policy.

I could've written your OP, I know what you mean.

Unless they allow you to call ahead and order the dessert for take-out over the phone, I imagine there will be a wait factor involved regardless of whether you eat in the restaurant or on a bench in Epcot.

Can you make that a brief rest time for the two of you, and maybe you can get a drink or a different dessert for yourself? My friend and I use this method to sample different restaurants without having to pay for a whole meal. I've never timed it, but I would guess we are in and out within 20 minutes for just dessert.
