Can my daughter use my credit card?

If it's a debit card that has her enter a pin number, she'll have no problem. I've never had a cashier ask to see that type of card.
A credit card is YMMV. I've had cashiers ask to see ID for $3 purchases and not ask for much larger ones.

If she's going to be using it often, getting her an account or adding her to your account would probably be best.

The answer is maybe/maybe not.

When my daughter was younger, I did the same thing. Most stores allowed the charge, but other stores did not. I am finding that more stores are requiring ID with charge purchases (for instance H&M ALWAYS asks me). Just a few weeks ago, my DD was in line buying something for me. I had to step out of line for something and I handed her my card, thinking it wouldn't be a big deal. But it was.

Anyway, I ended up making her an authorized user on my card and she got her own card off my account with her name on it. This has come in handy at college where I pay her off-campus expenses such as groceries. Rather than her use her account and me reimburse her, she just charges it to my account with her authorized user card.

You may want to think about getting her one if you anticipate more times she would need to use your card.

If it is mastercard or visa, the merchant can ask but you can refuse the ID and they can't refuse to let you use the card if it is properly signed. It is against the merchant agreements that the merchant signs with visa and mastercard.

Nope. The store can ask is the user is authorized on that account. And if they are not, they can decline to allow it to be used. And if your daughter looks very young, that may happen.

I used to give my sons my credit card to get gas when they were in high school. They never had a trouble with it but that was almost 10 years ago.

Ever saw Reality Bites? Part of the premise is that the protagonist is on her own after graduating college, but her dad wants to contribute by letting her use an oil company credit card. She's running out of money and then decided to get into the "business" of pumping gas, getting paid by drivers, and paying for it with the credit card.

The movie ends with her dad on the phone screaming about the credit card bill.

When I was in high school, my mom would give me her credit card with a note authorizing me to use it. The cashiers would just compare the signature on the card with the one on the note. I never had a problem.

OP here- it's a credit card, not a debit card. I will add her as an authorized user but can't get a card by tomorrow so I guess I will try. Maybe at least make a call to the credit card company.

It's usually a store policy. Two places where I've had an issue are Nordstrom Rack, my mother offered to buy me a pair of shoes and they wouldn't let me use her card because my ID didn't match. It was only a $17 purchase. And Best Buy. We were waiting at the cashier together, but a manager had to approve a price match. My mother went back to work and left me her card, and ID and they wouldn't do it. My ID even has the same address as hers. Also, I used to have a company card imprinted with the shortened, widely accepted version of my first name. My legal name is on my ID. I was turned down once at Best Buy and allowed another time. I never had an issue at any other retailer.

I'd give her the card, and if she runs into any issues, ask them to hold the item and you can buy it later.

Depends on the store.

I use my mom's card all the time at restaurants and grocery stores. I have even automatically signed my own name on the receipt without thinking and it hasn't been an issue (obviously it would be if my mom ever disputed one of the charges).

However, clothing stores and electronic stores sometimes ask for ID when making purchases so I always make sure she is close by if using her card at one of them.

You should only be signing your own name, to do otherwise could be considered fraud.
I use a company credit card that has my bosses name on it (along with the company name) and i have only ever signed my own name. Wouldn't even think to sign the bosses name.
