After booking a 7-night trip at the 11-month window, can MS divide up the reservation into chunks in case I decide to do a split stay and want to book another resort at 7 months?

Only if there is still availability for those dates. They MUST drop the days in question and then rebook them. Those days dropped could be lost to another members waitlist.

Ok, thanks. I don't think that is worth taking that chance. Guess I'll leave it as is.

Literally just tried this yesterday on the phone with MS. Can confirm this is the case.

I guess this is one of the advantages of picking up an AKV value studio after the 11-month window when walkers drop the nights. Usually that is done one night at a time. Then you can chunk them however you want. But booking at the 11-month window is too tempting to get all the nights at once!

Bingo! That's why I didn't change it. I found a unicorn of 3 nights in a row in a value studio! Not losing that!

The way to do the desired booking and face no issue of losing part of your reservation at 7 months out: (a) make two separate 11-month out reservations at home resort, one for nights that you will keep for home resort and the other for nights you may want to switch to another resort; (b) online at 7 months out from the reservation you want to change, try to modify it to another resort; that reservation for your home resort will be kept if you cannot make the modification.

Thereafter, if you are unable to make the change and are resigned to keep the entire time in your home resort, contact MS and have it merge the two home resort reservations.

And for a value or other highly-sought reservation, that probably means you would need to walk two separate reservations.

Yes, I have done this before. But I had it broken into two reservations because I picked up the nights one at a time after the 11-month window. This time I've been able to get all the nights at the 11-month window. I just couldn't bring myself to book only a few nights when the whole week was there. Not sure I'm willing to take that chance. I was hoping that MS could break it up without rebooking.

Next time, as mentioned, and if you have extra points, try to snag a second one to walk as well.

Then you can adjust the first as you go along! But I don’t book my trips like this now at 11 months since I almost always split stay. And this gives me options at 7 months for which part to switch.

But be careful, because I have had MS randomly combine my split reservations before (I would sometimes make two - like 4 nights, then 3 nights - in anticipation of possibly modifying one or the other at 7 months). I've started using different names/initials for lead guest, and it seems to have helped - that was a tip from someone here!

Yes, they randomly combine mine all the time too. Usually I am fine with it, but last time it was a problem.

I was able to secure a second AKV value studio this morning, but in my haste and excitement, I forgot to change my name as the lead guest. Should I call MS and have them make that change and explain why?

I would not worry. I have several in my own name.

I have never had a reservation canceled. But if you want it to be different just add a second guest that is not part of the first one. This way, guests are different.

Can you go in and do that on the reservation with modify? Also I think if you just change one other name on it they will not combine it. But not 100% sure on that.

No, you have to call to change the lead guest. I booked a room for a friend recently and accidentally misspelled her name. I had to call to get it changed. I wish it allowed you to change it online. I’ll just take my DH off on one of the reservations and see what happens.
