Can kids split a kids meal at the sit down restaurants?

My kids are 5 and 9 and they are light eaters, always! :) When we eat out at home they split a kids meal at table service restaurants. They split a hamburger, mac n cheese, a pizza, chicken fingers, spaghetti, etc. It's usually enough food for them both.

We aren't doing a dining plan, but was wondering if we can do that or will we get dirty looks or anything from the restaurants? Is it allowed? :confused3

Even sometimes my husband and I split a meal. It's not just for the cost savings, but some meals are enough for two. We don't need to have leftovers if we are going back to a resort with no microwave.

Take a look around and see if you can find examples of just how small the kids' meals are - they are quite small and I don't know if two kids will get enough sharing one unless they are REALLY light eaters. I'm guessing they're smaller portions than you are used to getting at home.

Agree -- these kids meals really are smaller. I have a light eater as well. Think 4 chicken nuggets, 5 apple slices and 2 small cookies. (just an example, not an exact).
However, if OOP at counter service, no prob. just get what you want and pay for it. You may be better off purchasing 2 adult meals and all 4 splitting, if the adults don't eat alot either, for QS.
At a table service restaurant, I really don't know what they would allow or how big, you may want to hunt around on some of these food photo threads.

I agree, I think the portion sizes of the child meals are really small. I don't think it will work.
That said, I think it is probably allowed. Paying OOP you can order what you want. The server may expect a larger tip though, I don't know.

We've found them to be very accommodating when splitting adult entrees (OOP).

As long as it is not a buffet and you are not on the dining plan, you can split meals. However as everyone else has said I doubt that splitting a kids meal would satisfy 2 kids, they have pretty small portions.

What we're planning to do is share 3 meals at a few TS places to stretch our credits. dining is a big part of our WDW trip and since we'll be there 12 days, we have loads of time. I'm being too cheap to spring for DXDDP but figure I get 1-2 extra restaurants this way. With 2 adults and 1 kids meal to split, we should have plenty. (or 2 kids and 1 adult meal in certain places) I figure we can always supplement with CS and snack credits if anyone is still hungry.

I know in places like Sci fi diner, my DD had a burger, fries, a milkshake, and dessert. That could easily have been split between two kids. The milkshake is a meal in itself!

Hmmm. Well I don't know? If the kids meals aren't like the normal restaurants like Ruby Tuesday, Red Lobster, Chilis, etc then maybe they'll need their own meal. I guess I'll do some searching to see if I can find pictures of what a kids meal looks like. Maybe it will just depend on the restaurant. I think they split a meal at Rain Forest Cafe and it was fine.

Rainforest Cafe isn't a Disney restaurant - it is a chain. The ones specifically at Disney operated restaurants are small.

Ok. I see. Well we have for dinners:

T-Rex Cafe
Tony's Town Square
La Hacienda de San Angel
Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater
Kona Café
Raglan Road

Lunch one day at Rain Forest Cafe at Animal Kingdom
The rest will be either a buffet meal or counter service, food court.

So maybe they can split a meal at some of these?

The Disney-operated restaurants on your list are Tony's, Sci Fi and Kona.

I don't have kids, so I haven't the slightest idea what the kids meals look like in the third party restaurants. There was a lot of discussion when the Disney kids meals changed a few years back.
