Can kids order from the adult menus on the DxDP?

Pretty much what it says. I could have sworn that they were all just lumped in as the same credits to be used together as they wanted every day. For example, let's say there are 4 people, so they get 12 DxDP credits per day to use at any restaurant and order off any menu. Can the kids (both under 10) order off the adult menus at table service restaurants or are they stuck ordering off the kids menus?

The dining plan terms state the children must order from the kids menu. That’s the only definitive answer anyone can provide. However, credits are not separate, so some waiters will allow kids to order adult meals. So, it’s possible, but not something you can count on.

The Disney web site states that children must order from the children's menu when one is offered. In reality, many servers will waive that rule. But you need to ask. Don't assume it will be ok. This is directly from Disney's web site:

If you’re dining with another party that’s also using a MagicBand or card to redeem meals, please notify the server which meals should be redeemed on each valid Disney Resort ID. Guests ages 3 to 9 must order from a children’s menu, where available.

Don’t be confused by the above two replies, OP. What is written and what is actual policy are different. You are on the DxDP and on that plan, children may order from the adult menu 100% of the time. :flower3:

That is not what is listed on the Disney web site. And it is good to know that just in case. Most likely they will be able to order of off the adult menu. But if they are told by a server it is not allowed, then that server is correct.

I suspect the reason that the servers say yes is (1) it makes the customer happy, which is what CMs are expected to do when possible, and (2) the total actual bill is higher, giving a higher expected tip amount. It is Win/win for the server. No reason for them to tell you no.

Plus, can they even tell your child is not 10? Since all the credits are pooled? Last year the servers always thought my 9yo was 10 from the start.

They can't! Even if the child is obviously younger, it doesn't matter to the server. With the DxDP, all credits are pooled together & there is no division of child credits & adult credits. :)

According to the Disney web site, under Deluxe Dining Plan, there is a difference between what a child can order and what an adult can order. What people experience in real life may differ though.

At this time, we have seen repeated reports that children are able to order from the adult menu.

However, as it has been pointed out, that is not what is in Disney's literature. They specifically indicate, in writing, that children must order from the children's menu

At any time this can be enforced. All credits are pooled at this time, but that can also change. The regular ddp differentiates between children and adult ts credits. Disney can change to this model at any time. Disney is making coding changes to allow alcohol options. Who knows what else can change.

So for now, adult meals for all on the dxdp.

Unless and until that changes.

We had deluxe over Thanksgiving. We were told at multiple restaurants that the kids could order off the adult menu. We never asked - my kids often think that the kids choices are too exotic. ;)

Only once did we take advantage of this, at trattoria al forno, and we ordered an extra adult appetizer. My son would never eat salad, and that was all they had as a kids appetizer.

Can this still work for the DP? Not Deluxe, but the Standard one with 1 TS and 1 QS. We are going in March and our 9 yo niece turns 10 in April, but her credit will definitely say child since at that time she will still be 9. Will some waiters still let her get an adult meal and charge the kid DP credit?

I’d be surprised but I’m interested to hear the answer too. I’ve heard reports of getting a kid sized portion of an adult meal though not sure of the validity of that.

At a TS restaurant, it will not work. The credits are definitely separated on the regular DDP for TS meals, and the "kids must order from the kid's menu" is enforced. For the QS meal, they are not separated AT THIS TIME, and ordering an adult meal with a kid's QS credit is allowed.

Thanks for the reply! I didn't think it would work, but I thought I would ask anyway.

This is definitely an interesting conversation.

The kids are 9 and 6. The 9 year old could definitely pass for over 10 - she's tall and mature. The 6 year old might be a stretch. Can servers see the kids' ages when they scan bands? Could one of the parents scan a band and just tell them to deduct the credits from their total pool?

The kids are sophisticated eaters. Their parents own a French restaurant. They won't be happy with nuggets and fries, which is why they wanted the DxDP to begin with for all the signature restaurants.

No. This does not work for table service on the regular plan.

Unless something changes, none of the restaurants we have used had cared. My daughter also hates nuggets and fries, which is why we also use DxDP
