It seems like my DD7 just seems to get adult issues already. She was diagnosed with migraines at age 5 and now it seems she is showing signs of lactose intolerance. She gets ill after eating ice cream, cereal with milk or just from drinking a glass of milk. She never had a problem before.

I am lactose intolerant and it came on all of a sudden a few years ago. I carry Lactaid at all times and am able to eat milk products when I take one.

Is it possible for kids to develop this issue this young? I have heard of babies being allergic to milk but not kids her age.

My DD could drink milk until she was 14 and then it would make her
feel terrible with anything related to milk products.

My problem know is I am very allergic to soybean and we are
trying soybean milk on her. So we will see.

Babies are allergic to the milk protein, I do believe, not the lactose.

There are alot of allergies associated with dairy other than lactose. So it is possible it could be one of them.

My 12 yo DD was diagnosed with Lactose intolerance several years ago. She would get sick after eating ice cream or drinking milk. The doctor suggested she was probably lactose intolerant and when I tried Lactaid, it worked. She could eat most anything dairy with no problem. A few years ago, it seemed the lactaid wasn't working much anymore so we stopped it. Now she has to watch spicy foods and still can't eat ALOT of dairy, but has learned how to control the problem(she ends up in the bathroom for a looong time if she over does it)....so yes, I would say your DD could be Lactose intolerant.

yes children can be lactose intolerant...before you give her anything you should have her see a doctor...I would try soy products and see if that helps her system...

I was a director for a child care center for years and saw this in a few children

the protien in the milk is what babies are not supposed to have due to the digestive system...they can not process it and it causes health problems...

try other products or skip the dairy for a week or so and see how it goes...

The DD11 of a friend of mine has been lactose intolerant for years.

I remember when she was in about Kindergarten, whenever she would have lunch at our house, her mom would send over one of those Lactaid pills for her to have with lunch, just in case she wanted milk or ice cream.

My DD16 also became lactose intolerant about a year ago, but Lactaid works fine for her. I just make sure she carries it all the time and I carry it as well.

Interestingly, she also developed migraines about 6 months ago, I wonder if there is any correlation? I will have to ask her neurologist I guess.

I have two kindergarten students who are severly lactose intolerant! They can't even eat Cheez-Its at snack time.

While babies may be allergic to milk protein, your 7 yo is not a baby! So, it is entirely possible that she's lactose intolerant. Why don't you try giving her a lactaid and see what happens!? That way, you'll have a better idea!

MOMOFMNM--you have to be careful with soy though, esp at a young age like that. It can cause kids to develop nut-based allergies.
Or so I've heard.

It was discovered at the age of 7, that my migraines was connected to milk. This was long before they used terms like lactose intolerance. When I was in my early 20's, the intolerance not only caused migraines, but gas as well. Lactaid does nothing for me. I can eat some things like cheese, but only in very small quantities.

DD (33) developed lactose intolerance right after she gave birth to my 7yr. old DGD.. She has to drink Lactaid milk and carries pills to use when she wants to eat a little other dairy products..

On the other hand, when I was around 35 or so, the doctor diagnosed me as being lactose intolerant too, but after a little experimentation it turned out I was suffering from irritable bowel syndrome instead.. I can drink regular milk and eat all dairy products.. The only thing I have to be careful of is cheese and eat it in moderation..

Oh - and my DD developed migraines in third grade..
