We are 4 adults (no kids this trip) looking to go to Universal for the first time in late September. We are mainly wanting to do the BIG rides like the coasters, as we will probably do another visit with the kids. We can't decide between the two parks. Any suggestions for which park to do? Or we wondered if it were possible to do both parks in 1 day if we just did the big rides mainly. As a side note, hours are 9-6 when we go and we do plan on getting there early. And we are not staying at a universal hotel, but would be willing to consider buying the express pass if we needed to. We were thinking at that time that it may not be necessary. Any advice?

It shouldn't be too busy in Sept. You should be able to get both done, even if you wanna ride some of the smaller rides, especially if you get there at opening. And if for any reason it is busy, you can buy the express pass in the park. Hope you have fun!!

You won't need to stay onsite for the unlimited Express access during late September. The parks aren't usually crowded during that time. It sounds like you would enjoy IOA better since there are three coasters (Hulk, Fire and Ice (Dueling Dragons), JPRA and Spiderman but you should be able to do both parks since you're planning on arriving early. Hopefully...the new coaster (Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit) will be open by that time so you can do the HR3 and Revenge of the Mummy at the Studios. As mentioned...the Express Passes can be purchased at numerous locations in both parks.

Thanks so much guys for your help. I appreciate it. Can't wait to give Universal a try after so many Disney trips.

Four adults, in September, with park hours 9-6, should be able to hit the following rides in BOTH parks, provided they travel at a decent walking clip.

Hulk, Spider-Man, Ripsaw Falls (warning: soaking wet), Jurassic Park, Fire & Ice Dragon (if open)

Simpsons Ride, MiB, Mummy, Hollywood Rockit (if open), Jaws

If you allot 3-4hrs per park, you'll have enough time for everything listed, plus lunch at one of the fine locations in either park. After you're done in the parks, Citywalk has a fun nightlife. Have some dinner, head to Rising Star, have a few drinks, and karaoke with a LIVE BAND! :goodvibes
