I am having dinner at Chef Mickey's on our arrival night. It is for 5pm, but just in case we are late and do not make it back to the Magic Kingdom in time for the 7pm fireworks....Is there an Observation Deck available at the Contemporary where we can see the fireworks? We are not staying at the Contemporary, and I'm not that familiar with it.
Thanks!

There is one at the California Grill but when I was there last year it was just for their patrons. It's a great restaurant .You might want to try it.You can get a window seat and watch the fireworks with the sound piped in.

I read that there is another observation deck somewhere, like the 5th floor, but I have never been on it.

You can also watch the fireworks from the CR parking lot.

I dont think that Contemp has docks on the lagoon side. I say you hop on the monorail over to the Poly or GF and grab a piece of sand on the beach.

HEY!!! We will be there together Daisie....!!!

yes..there is an observation deck on the CR..You can walk through the restaurant and go out...it is on the North side...When I eat dinner there, you see people walking through the dining room to get to the deck

Which restaurant? The California Grill? That's the obervation deck which is often closed to non-diners.

DisneyDmbNut....Yes, I'm checking into the Wilderness Lodge on Jan 30...we can't wait....which restaurant can you walk through to see the fireworks...and can anyone do this?
Thanks
See you at the Lodge!!:wave2:

The 4th floor observation deck is located at the north end of the CR's grand concourse level (the one with the shops and restuarants).

I recall that being all stores at the north end of the concourse. How do you get out there?

To get outside from the concourse level, just walk past the last shop in the northwest corner. There is a exit/entrance door there that provides access to the observation deck.

FYI, the sixth and seventh floor landings of the exterior stairwell are also great. They are less crowded than the 4th floor and offer a higher vantage point. The music is loud enough and you're above the monorail. We caught FTIS from here last summer and then walked down to the dock to see the Electrical Water Pageant.

I think the observation deck on the 4th floor is the best place to catch the fireworks. The music is piped in - you get a great view of the fireworks in front of the Magic Kingdom - you see the monorail going around - in fact, it goes right over your head - and the crowd that forms out there is friendly - lots of camaraderie.

Best of all - no jostling and long journey out of the park! :D

and saw the Wishes fireworks almost every night from the hotel 4th floor observation deck. My advice is when you go out to the observation deck, head up the stairs on the left side to about the 6th floor and you have a great view. Normally people are lined up 45 minutes early on the deck on the bench there. So we just go above them and get a great view.

When we ate there in June, the CM at the California Grill check-in desk was turning people away and saying that the deck was for those dining at the restaurant. All complied, except for very vocal man and his family. He shot back something to the effect of: "The brochure for this hotel said there was an observation deck... And I'm going to use it!!!" The poor CM followed the family trough the dinning room all the while saying "Sir!.... But, Sir!" but he gave up and let the family go.

Thank you everyone for all the information. I think I will definately go for the 4th floor observation deck....since I will be dining at Chef Mickey's, it should work out perfectly!

Does anyone know what time the Wish's fireworks show starts at the MK? We are going to have dinner at 5 on Jan. 3rd (my son's 8th birthday) at Chef Mickey's then we are doing the pontoon boat ride for the show from the Contemopary. Has anyone done this before?

When we booked the cm was not sure of the fireworks timing at that time. Thanks!:bounce:

So now I am confused - is there a way to get to the observation deck without going through California Grill? Because I have heard the same reports - no use of the deck unless you're dining at the Grill.

Ha ha ha...Maybe they stopped the people BECAUSE it did turn into a bit of a mass! I just noticed that people would get off the elevator and walk outside..

Daisie - when are you staying untill..I will be at the WL Feb 2-6th!

When we ate at CG on 10/19, we saw lots of people coming in just for the fireworks. It was a MNSSHP night so maybe they're not as popular as the regular shows so that's why they let people do it, but no one said anything about the deck being only for diners. While we were waiting for our table, we sat in the lounge area and were lucky enough to get a window table and watched the show from there. We sat next to 2 families who were there just to watch the fireworks though. One couple ordered drinks, but the one with kids just grabbed a table and watched the show. Many other people came in and just walked to the observation deck and then left after the show, so I don't think they have a problem with people doing this unless it's very crowded. Castlegazer, if you don't want to take the chance that they will turn you down however, we've gone to the 4th floor deck and the view there is good too.
