We are heading to Orlando Saturday to surprise our DD with a reunion with her friend from CO (that she met on DCL 16 months ago!). We aren't doing any parks or staying on site because we are going to FW in June (couldn't justify $400-500 this trip just to walk into a park). We haven't been to WDW since 8/2014:crazy2:. Monday we will have free and want to go to DS and maybe lunch at the Pop (our first home). I really want to go check out FW, maybe even see our loop. Just can't stand the anticipation anymore. Are we allowed to do this? Would we be able to drive through or would we park at registration? Thanks!

Sure you can visit! I'm not sure about driving your own car through though. There are a number of things at the Fort that are open to anyone at WDW. Hoop-D-Doo Revue, Mickey's Backyard BBQ, the camp fire. Most people take the busses to the Fort and jump on the internal busses and get off at one of the stops. You can drive over, park in the overflow lots and get an internal bus to drop you closest to a loop you want to check out. The boats also will also bring you from MK or Wilderness Lodge or the Contemporary. You would get to see the Settlement Trading Post, Trails End restaurant and walk over to the Fort busses and go from there. We did this 2 years ago when we were staying in a condo in St Pete. Drove over for the day to get our Fort fix.

Sure you can pj. About the only thing you CAN'T do is swim in the Fort pools. Otherwise, Teamubr gave you the rundown.

Park in the front lot when you come in the gate and catch a bus down to the Meadow Trading Post or thereabouts. Walk your loop you want (was it 800?), maybe attend a campfire singalong with Chip & Dale (the Conestoga Wagon behind the bleachers is the concession stand. They sell marshmallows, roasting sticks, even smores kits). I have the March schedule already posted. Buy some Fort souvenirs (to stoke the anticipation when you're back home).

The only driving destinations inside the Fort are campsites or short-term (as in 15 minutes) parking around the Meadow TP. But the Fort is easily negotiated on foot or by bus.
