my parents are DVC deed holders. I am on the account with reservations rights but not on the deed. Do I actually have any perks once I’m in Disney? Like, Can I use the lounge in Epcot or get discounts where it’s accepted (let’s assume my parents sat this vacation out but I have their card physically on me with my mother’s name on it)....?

Edited: Just want to add, I’m looking for the honest rules and what the family as a whole is entitled to here, I really don’t know! Not looking for any loopholes.

If you have a blue membership card with your name on it -- that is what would get you any perks. They do check your license so you can't not just take someone elses card and show it. So as an associate member I am guessing you don't have a card. Like the PP mentioned if you want the perks and your parents want to include you on the deed that would get you access as long as they either purchased direct or prior to April of 2016.

Yes, as mentioned, only the owners on the deed get the perks for themselves and their family residing at the same address. This is why I added my adult daughter to our deeds. She gets the same perks and has her own blue membership card.

If on the deed, it is also an asset for you, and it costs money to add someone to the deed. It should be something done with full consideration to the impacts.

Associates on the account do not get any perks.

Disneynutz is correct. Only those people listed on the actual deed are members and are entitled to the blue DVC member card (unless they bought resale recently, then all bets are off on that too). Associates can be very quickly added and have access to making reservations, but they are NOT held liable for mortgage payments or maintenance fees, etc. Only those on the deeds are liable for those expenses.

As an aside, yes, there surely is a charge to add someone as those documents will have to be re-recorded with all the appropriate government agencies in order to accomplish this. AND the DVC membership must be paid off to changes names on the deeds.

Actually, the membership doesn't have to be paid off to add someone to the deed, but if it isn't paid off, a new credit check with everyone that will be on the deed has to be run.

Interesting.... I have a few friends that are still at DVC and work in the QA department (they oversee and explain the signing of the documents) and they have always said that the mortgage must be paid off. For anyone considering adding ( or deleting ) someone to their DVC deed, I recommend they call Member Admin to get the definitive scoop on that.

Just what a friend was told about her brothers membership. They opted to wait until paid in full, but still was an option.

It either has to be paid off or you have to get the permission of the lender. I've never heard of a DVC deed change going but I imagine someone must have tried at some point.

That's what I thought too, Dean. Thanks!

Even in my current “gratuitous family transfer they were clear that loans had to be paid off.

Dues can be on the monthly plan through Disney, but she was clear on loans.

Because they have vetted the owner and they don't want to take a chance they'll have a lower chance of getting their money. I suspect if you could convince them they were clearly in a better position and you were willing to pay their expenses to covert, they'd be on board. Or they might just not want to fool with it though.
