Hi all
I am leaving for sunny florida(after all the rain we have had here for the past 2 months-yes with only 3 days sun!!) in 11 dAys and staying at POR.Have never been before.I have requested a room in mansions but I know this is not guarenteed.I was wondering after reading threads about the waterview rooms here being obstructed by trees etc, whether this applied to all of POR or just the AB section. If we do get mansions will it be worth upgrading to the waterview and if we get AB shall we just be satisfied with the lush surroundings.Does anyone know how much approx it is to upgrade. We are staying for 14 nights.

Thankyou

Alyson:cloud9:

I'm not sure a waterview is worth the extra cost at a MOD, as the view is usually out of your front window, and there's the outside walkway/corridor there anyway. Also, waterview could mean pool, and that can get noisy.

yep, at mods, at least imho, views are not worth paying extra for, so honestly I'd skip it. you could always add a request for a section, if you want to be close to the main building or bus stop or the like. those would be more important to me.

enjoy! I loved POR when we stayed there years ago. we were in AB and loved it.

Yes, you can upgrade to a water-view if they have any available. If they don't, you're out of luck. But if they do, they'll be happy to sell you a more expensive room. :)

I think the water views are worth paying for and I do so. Much rather look out over something pretty than a parking lot, no matter where I stay. But, that's me.

I love the water view and would also request a corner room - the two windows make a wonderful difference, especially on a long stay :)

Parterre Place is a wonderful location, close to the bridge and has some nice lake views and fountains too (don't forget, a water view could also be a pool view!).

In AB, buildings 14, 15, 16, 18 and 27 are nice locations if you want to be an easy walk to the food court.

We had a room in building 14, corner room, considered water view by Disney, but we could only see water if we stared intently through the trees for several seconds - if the tree moved in the breeze, we might see a little water!!

We spoke with the manager because I honestly thought an error had been made - nope, it was water view, but when I told her about the "view" she gave us the std rate for the room. I light heartedly suggested they might want to change the catagory of that particular room. LOL

Have a wonderful holiday!!

At all the Moderates, a water view room costs an extra $15 - $26 per night, depending on season.

I know it's all a matter of opinion, but my opinion is I'd never pay extra for a water view at a WDW Moderate ... the whole exterior corridor thing. If you have you curtains wide open to enjoy the view, then everyone walking by has a great view of YOU! Oh yeh, and then there is also the thing about water view meaning the Sassagoula River OR a pool ... you can request all you want that it be the river, but it could be a pool.

Crabbie1, Hi I don't want to put a damper on your vacation but it will probably rain every afternoon that you are in FL. But most showers don't typically last longer than 30 mins. A little saying we have down here is "Raining in Florida? Give it a minute it will stop" Please take care when it comes to the lightning though. We are th lightning capital of the world. Just take cover.

:rotfl: Oh, no, not again!!:rotfl:

Will not say a word this time...well, maybe just one or two...;) IMHO guests are not peering into rooms -at least not more than a few seconds it takes to walk by to their own rooms :)

CleveRocks and I continue to respectfully disagree on the open curtain in the mods:)

Lived in FL as a child, but NC is scarier when it comes to lightning - it has the hightest numbers of deaths from lightning in the US :scared1:

True, nobody's peering into other Guests's rooms... but as you point out, it's relatively common behavior to glance in an uncurtained window. Combine this repeated lack of privacy with the fact that pretty much the only way to actually take advantage of that water view it to be standing at the window or in the open doorway, plus that 'water' view could be of the river, or a pool, or a fountain, or a puddle... and, frankly, IMO, that money is better spent elsewhere.

I do agree about a waterview if paying rack rate....but for $89 a night (2006) I enjoyed the corner lake view room at CBR :)

Hee Hee! We always pay for a water view at the mods and leave our curtains wide open during the day....we hardly even notice the "few" people that walk by. Maybe its because at home we live on a golf course and the entire back of the house is nothing but a wall of windows.....

With that being said, I do wish Disney would change the room categories at the mods to include standard, preferred, pool view or water view. Paying for a water view and ending up with a view of the quiet pool is definitely a let down. Luckily, the only time that happened to us was at CBR and upon our request, they moved us to a beautiful beach view room with no problems.

I do so wish there was a catagory for preferred lake view - it must be one or the other....I would be happy to pay for both so I'd not have to choose between the two. I have MS and for me a lot of natural light really helps, so a preferred location with a lake view makes a big difference. :)

Last time I tried to explain this at check-in at CBR the CM was rather condescending and no matter how I tried to say I understood it was one or the other, but explain my situation she simply repeated "next time you must choose water or preferred, not both.". Maybe next time I'll ask for a manger if the CM at check-in does not understand. I was not being picky, just trying to get a room that would make life more comfortable while on vacation.

Still, we twice had a corner room facing the parking lots (before the foliage was so tall to block the light) and it was great! :)

Thankyou all for the replies. The Virgin rep has quoted up £17 a night to upgrade so it will be cheaper for us to do it over there as even at high season it works out less.I would prefer a corner room as had one at CBR last year in Jamaica and lthough we had no "peeping toms" looking through we had a squirrel that used to sit outside our room every morning:cloud9: .As for the lightning I am aware of this and the rain, but in england at the moment it is 24/7 and is really not doing our gardens and flowers any good as well as the poor people with flooded homes in the north of the uk.
I will play it by ear.Thanks again:grouphug:

Hi,

I agree it is nice to have a water view but be careful what they class as water view.

When we last stayed at PO we booked through Virgin holidays and the water view cost us £150.00, however when we arrived guess what our "water view" was?
A view of the fountain in the courtyard....serioulsy!!!

I was enraged and spoke to the resort manager and after much argument she refunded the extra that Disney charge for the water view, however this was less that what we had been charged by Virgin.....so we were still out of pocket for pocket:confused3

whilst we were there we also spoke to another couple who had a side view of the river (if you leaned out of their window and craned your neck) and they too were very unhappy!!!

Whatever you decide have a lovely time:cool1:

Water view at POR means looking moving the tree limbs or shrubs that are in the way. We requested and paid for a water view last year. When we got to the room, the only water we could find was in the bathroom. We called front desk, they moved us to another room that if you moved a huge tree you could see the river. They explained that water view meant you could see the water but it might have things like landscaping in front of it. So this year , no water view.

Oh, wow – I’m very sorry that was your experience (but thank you for confirming, unfortunately first-hand, my contention that yes, water-view actually could mean something other than a lake/river/pool).
And, Disney’s not the only entity with such a broad definition of ‘water-view’. A couple of years ago, I paid extra for a water-view at the Royal Pacific at Universal. Good: I was able to check in extremely early. Bad: My ‘water-view’ meant that, while my first-floor room faced the pool, someone would have needed to take a machete to the trees and bushes between my room and the pool for me to see ANY water.

The fact that a fountain is classified as waterview is beyond ridiculous. I cant believe Disney stands by that waterview policy for the mods. As the grounds are so beautiful, it sound like you would be better off requesting anything but a parking lot view at POR.

I think I will spend my money else where.A fountain....water view my god.:scared1: Unless they can clarify it is a river view I will forget it.
