Can I try for an AP rate with no AP(yet)?

I have read a thousand different AP threads over the past 24 hours. Can anyone tell me for a fact whether I can call tomorrow (assuming AP rates are released) and switch my current Oct. reservation to AP rates? I have read that I just need to have the ACTIVATED AP at time of check-in, not booking, but this seems impossible to me! The AP will be a good deal for me just in terms of park admission but it sure would be nice to save on the room too,if I can...My current reservation is at $315/night.

I've booked rooms with AP rates and never been asked to show my AP at check in. That being said I've either had an active AP or a voucher that I'd be activating that day. I'm looking forward to tomorrow and getting an AP rate for October.

You really and truly do not need the pass to book the reservations. You are suppose to have an activated pass at check in. Many of us (me included) have checked in with just the voucher and some of us have never been asked at all, but I wouldn't chance that.

This is similar to another post. You do not need to have an activated pass to check-in. Do not go to the park before check-in just to activate your pass. Most times they do not even ask to see the pass or a voucher at all, let alone at check-in. Also remember you can make your reservation with a childs AP and get the reduced rate. You do not need an adult pass. That is what we did and reservations told us it is okay and is done all the time.

No problem making your reservation without your AP. I hadn't even bought my AP yet when I made my first AP rate booking.

Shortly before that trip I started stressing over how I was going to go get my pass activated and still get checked-in as early as I wanted. I spoke to a CM on the phone who told me to stop stressing. He said I simply needed to show my voucher at check-in. He said that there was a possibility that they would ask me to present my activated AP sometime that day, but that even that didn't happen very often.
