Can I Trim Up Yet?

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's far too early!

Agreed.

I was in Currys yesterday and they were playing Christmas music - it felt so ridiculous and un-festive...

I am going Christmas shopping with my Mum today, but that is just preparation - no decorations or anything until the 4th or 5th of December. Have bought my christmas cards and have the address labels all printed for the envelopes, but need to get the enthusiasm to write them...

Christmas does tend to be more overboard every year

Nothing is going up in our house until Dec, never does. I can't be doing with any of it before then, it just gets in the way and makes it more difficult for me to clean the house. I've done most of my xmas shopping and as I'm hand making my cards this year I've got a good portion of them done but that's because I want to be chilled and organised this year, which so far I am. I have exams in Dec and Scott's sister's baby coming any day too so there's enough stress without me forcing more on myself!

I bought my first 2 presents on Saturday, and did feel that I was being a bit previous.

I do think that Christmas should remain in December.

I think that it would be much more festive if the shops only put out all related merchandise on 1st December, and all shop Christmas themed decor and city centre lighting could go up/on then. People should only decorate their homes from this date too. If we had a shorter Christmas period then I think it would feel much more festive.

At the moment stuff is appearing in the shops at the end of September, then some time in October the big department stores have their decorations up, quickly followed in November with other shops, and the switching on of city centre lights. You also see the first decorated houses by mid-November - madness. By the time Christmas actually arrives you've actually started to be a bit fed up with it all which is a big shame. I used to love going around the shops on Christmas Eve, just to get a few last minute stocking fillers for the kids and hubby, and it was a lovely atmosphere. But the last few years, all the shops have taken down the Christmas decorations by Christmas Eve and have put up their sale signs!!!

Don't get me wrong, I do love Christmas. I love putting up the decorations, wrapping the pressies while listening to Christmas music, going to Carol concerts etc. I love seeing houses decorated, especially the ones that go over the top. There is a house not too far away that is completely turned into a grotto, inside and out, and people come from all over Liverpool to see it. People queue for ages to go in, cos obviously only so many can go in at a time. He does it all for charity though, and raises a lot of money each year.

I love all the Christmassy films and programs on the telly, and I absolutely love my Christmas dinner. But I feel that some of the spirit of Christmas is lost because we all start far too early.

Keep Christmas in December - thats what I say. :thumbsup2

That is EXACTLY how I feel (but couldn't find the words in my post earlier...).

If you go into M&S after about the 10th December, you will struggle to by Christmas presents/decorations/etc... basically they just don't appear to replenish their xmas stock (excluding food, obviously) after this date. It's like Christmas is over already, but some of us are only just getting into the mood...

I am afraid that Christmas is beginning to feel like an "obligation"/"chore" rather than a joy. I don't have children yet, so am hoping that will change my outlook on Christmas (in a few years).
