Can I transport a turkey in a cooler for Thanksgiving?

We are in a GV for Thanksgiving arriving Tues. DD lives in St. Augustine and will be leaving Tues at about four. Do you think she can bring a fresh turkey bought on Mon in a cooler or do I need to buy a frozen one. I would go to Publix on Tues when I arrive but not sure if I would be too late. I don't want a pre cooked one we want to make our own. I will need a normal 12 to 14 lb turkey. Does anyone know how Publix's supply would be two days before.

Of course she could bring one. It would be in the cooler on the trip only, and ut in frig once in the villa. With ice in the cooler, it will be cool enough.
Don't worry. Enjoy. Sounds like a special trip.

My mom used to take a turkey on our drives from Los Angeles to El Paso quite frequently. She shouldn't have any problems.

Grocery stores around here will take pre-orders for fresh turkeys, maybe Publix will do that too, then you're assured of getting one.

Thanks, I may try that with Publix before we leave since I wilL have to piCk up other staples.

Early in our marriage, my mother-in-law flew from Denver to Chicago bringing us a turkey on the plane. I suspect it was a nuisance to lug around (no, she didn't buy it a seat) but the result was delicious.

Has anyone ever had a precooked thanksgiving dinner from public? We will be in a condo on Longboat Key for Thanksgiving and I remember there being a publix there. I offered to cook a seafood thanksgiving dinner but my husband wants turkey and I dont really want to fuss with a turkey because I am not sure what cooking utensils will be in the condo.

On a side note, we were on the shuttle to the airport one time to fly to Turks and Caicos. Another family on the bus had a full size cooler with them that they were checking in with their airline. Being curious, I asked what was in the cooler.

They said it was full of meat. They were bringing their own meat to the island to eat for the week. Crazy!

A friend of mine would bring their frozen meat and some other frozen food items from Ct. to Aruba, no problem.

As long as the turkey is dead, she should have no problem. The ride from St. Augustine is just a little over 2 hours and any decent cooler with some ice or an ice pack will keep food just fine. Now if the turkey is still gobbling and pecking, it could be a real distraction to the driver.
