We are going to purchase DVC in a 3-4 months. We are planning a Easter week trip in 2014. Will it be possible to get a reservation at OKW only 7 months out. We will need a 2 bedroom.

My big worry is we will spend all the money to buy into DVC and we will not get a reservation.

HELP!!

I think you have a decent chance at OKW at 7 months. Easter is late next year, so many school districts like ours will have already had spring break. We closed on our DVC contract in April a few years ago and there was availability for me to book a 2BR the week of Christmas, which included Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I booked 8 or 8.5 months out. Are you buying direct? If so, your guide can possibly help you secure your first reservation if the resorts are pretty well booked by then. If you a buying resale, I think you need to begin the process in a month or two because it can take 2-3 months before you are able to book.

I think your chances of booking OKW for next Easter should be okay. We did an Easter trip renting points through David's and got a 2 bedroom only 3 months out. We had our reservation made only a few hours after submitting the request.

For the Easter weeks, at 7 months out, you can usually get OKW, SSR, AKV standard and savanna view, BWV pool/garden, BLT lake view, and VWL.

Note it is often important that you not delay beyond 7 months out to make a reservation because many things that are open can disappear quickly at 7 months out. You state you will purchase in 3 to 4 months. That means you could be waiting until August. In Sep will be the 7 month window for Easter weeks. You will not be able to reserve if you purchase resale until after closing the sale. If you purchase in Aug, closing might not occur before Oct.

We've gone the past 7 years for Easter week and usually reserve at 7 months out due to owning at 3 different home resorts. We've never had a problem getting anything at the 7 month window. I really think it's because of the high point requirements a lot of people stay away this week. I plan on reserving at 7 months again for 2014, though planning on SSR this year, so not worried. For this year, I remember seeing VWL, BWV, BLT, OKW, SSR, BCV and AKV. We were looking for a 2 bedroom dedicated. BWV doesn't have dedicated units so only lockoffs were available there. No treehouses were available at 7 months. We ended up at VWL, thought about briefly staying at BCV, but our friends were at BLT so wanted to be somewhat close and didn't have enough points for BLT for 10 nights.

We booked Easter week this year (3/30-4/5) back in December, so only a little over 4 months out. The only resort that had all the nights we wanted was SSR. We could have waitlisted for another resort, but were happy with SSR so we stuck with that. Once in a while I would look and see what else was available and different resorts had a couple nights here and there. I'm thinking a Waitlist might have come through had we pursued it. The only downsides to spring break - higher points as it is peak time and crowds.
