Hello everybodee! I'm Kelly! I've been on the boards for about a year but if you notice my post count, I'm a certifiable lurker! I am 34 years old & married & live in Madison, Alabama (but originally from Portland, ME). Heres a pic of me from my most recent trip to WDW:
I am married to the Grinch (whose nickname will probably occupy this thread title when I convert it to a trip report). Here he is in all his Grinchy glory (ok, maybe not so Grinchy here, this was on a recent trip to the Birmingham Zoo):
I am mother to three kids, Kyle (16):
Alexander (Alex - 9) & Elizabeth (Libby 7). Yep, Libby is a trickster and yes Alexs shoes are on backwards - this was the first day of school and I didnt notice it until I was looking at the pictures AFTER I dropped them off at school! Whoops! Mom of the Year award goes to .anyone other than me!
My husband and youngest two kids have never been to Disney. My oldest, Kyle, went when he was three, so basically, you could say he's a newbie, too. I, however, am a veteran Disney visitor. We went almost every year when I was a kid and I lived in Florida (Deltona) for most of high school, though Ive never stayed on property, so perhaps veteran is a bit lofty a title for me. Most recently I was surprised with a trip by my awesome sister, Amy, in November 2010. We stayed at the Swan & Dolphin (11/11 - 11/14 short, but AWESOME trip!), my first time staying on property AND my first Food & Wine Festival! Awesome!! I like awesome and I say it a lot. awesome. <-- that was extra just for you.)
It was this short surprise trip that spurned the planning for our trip next month (squee! Did I just say this was next month? I did? Awesome!) The whole time I was there with my sisters, all I could say was "Alex would love this...Libby would love that...Kyle would flip if he could see this". So of course, when I came home and back to work, I spilled nonstop about my trip to fellow a Disneyhead co-worker. About a month later she told me that she had extra DVC points that she and her family would not be able to use before they expired and said I could have them to use for a trip with my family. I believe this was our first shot of pixie dust for this trip.
Say what? Come again? Surely I did not hear you right. I can HAVE those points? Like, not pay for a hotel/resort package and just....HAVE the points? Ummm, yes, please?
In reality, after many "are you sure, are you Sure, are you SURE???"s and some teary eyes, I began planning my family's first trip to Walt Disney World Resort.
Given the number of points available and the fact that we had 5 people in our party, the only viable option for resort was Animal Kingdom Villas. Please dont take that statement the wrong way, I am exceedingly happy to be staying there, its just that there were no other options given the variables. It was a long wait until March 5 and I about cried again when my coworker was on the phone in my office making the ressie. *sigh* I am kind of a crier, but in the best of ways.
Our next installment? My sister is active military time to get some tickets at a steal!!! And overcoming the Grinch and his grinchingly grinchful ways.
