Can I sell some of my points?

I'm thinking of selling some points to raise some quick cash, but don't want to give up my DVC membership. Is it possible to sell a partial contract or do I have to sell the whole thing and buy back a smaller package?

You can not sell a partial contract, but depending on how much you need to raise, you might be able to rent your current points out. Good luck!

No, you cannot break up a contract.

Did you do an add on at any time? If so, you could sell that (or keep it and sell the original contract).

You may not get as much quick cash as you think by selling your contract. It takes time to sell (after you get and accept an offer, you have to go through ROFR and Disney can take up to 30 days to decide). Unless you are a do-it-yourself person, you're going to have to pay a broker commission.

Good luck - hope you find another way to get your quick cash - have you considered renting your points? You'd could maybe pick up a couple (or more) thousand that way pretty quick.

Best wishes-

The broker commission is around 12% when you sell a contract. I sold one thru TTS, and, while the commission is stiff, the contract was sold and the money in my hands in less than 30 days. Since it was quick and very easy, I decided that the 12% was worth it. If you have any add-on's, they tend to sell at top dollar. ;)

Is this possible? A friend of mine wants to sell some of her points. When I told her she can't break up her contract, she told me they can have their contract redeeded then sell some of them.

Disney has refused to do this. So please say how your friend got hers done?

I'd be interested in hearing how this is done also. Everyone I have talked to says it can't be done. It was one reason why we went resale in order to get smaller point contracts.

She is wrong, period. DVC will not buy them back directly, redeed them or waive the restriction on selling part of any SINGLE contract. Anyone buying 175 points or more should seriously consider having multiple contracts. And if you can get DVC to give you multiple contracts for 150 points, I'd do that as well with two 75 point contracts.

Disney will redeed, but they will not break up the contract. You get a new deed in the event of death for example. (The new deed for the heirs) I do have one friend who plans to leave her contract to her kids, I am not sure what Disney will do there? Do they break it up or put both of them on the deed? (That will be fun, the kids HATE each other LOL!)

if the children elect to kept it - both names go on the deed.

if they really hate each other I would expect a sale shortly.

Thanks for all the comments and food for thought. I'm having a temporary financial crunch and the only thing I have of value is my DVC membership. So I guess I'm going to go ahead and sell it, then buy it back in about six months. I know that sounds dumb, and costly, and I really REALLY hate to do it, but it's the only thing I can think to do. Unless anyone can offer a different suggestion?

Oh that would be too easy... What will probably happen is that they will spend a lot of time fighting and canceling each other's reservations. However, at some point one of the lazy bums has to pay the dues.... Disney could just get it by default. (Mom is 80 and still supports both of the bums, since they can't live together she pays rent on two apts for them. They have even told me what they plan to do with the inheritance... wait until they hear that mom has spent a lot of it on them already and is leaving a CHUNK of change to her church LOL!)

If you truly expect the financial crunch to be over in 6 months, have you looked at renting your current points and/or borrowing next years points to rent them out? This would most likely be much less expensive in the long run than paying a commission to sell points now, and then buying them back at a price that is most likely more than you originally paid. Best of luck to you.
