I know I do not want to actually ride TOT. I don't enjoy the sensation of falling. However, I've heard that the pre-show for TOT is so good that I regret missing out.

Can I go through the queue, enjoy the preshow, and just not load onto the actual ride? Will I annoy the CM's if I want out? Maybe I could bring along DD6 and ask her to start crying right before the ride. ;)

I know they have a chicken exit so I am sure that you could use that. The preshow is scarier than the ride. DS wants to know if he can skip the preshow and just do the ride this year!!!!

Peggy-

There is an exit for people who want to leave right before you get on the elevators. My sis did this the last time we were there. The CM's were great about it. They had her stand off to the side while we were entering the elevators, then she was waiting for us when we got off.

Not only can you do the pre-show without boarding an elevator, but I'd highly recommend it. As with so many of the Disney attractions, the pre-show is just incredibly fantastic. The "set" (aka the lobby of the hotel) is beautiful, and the video setting up what's about to happen is super cool, too. It may well be one of the best pre-shows at Disney!

Yes! If your having second thoughts or just want to experience everything except the elevator drop, just wait in line until you get all the way up to the loading of the elevators and tell the elevator operator and you'll get to take a normal elevator to the ride exit. You'll see everything up to the actual ride itself, pre-show and full
queue.

I always take the chicken exit. It's fun to be able to hang with your family until they ride.

One of the highlights of MGM is the interior of the TOT hotel. If you are a fan of the original TZ series- you will see replicas from the show that are museum worthy. The ambience and props are unlike any experience at WDW. Think back to the first time you entered the Haunted Mansion.

So don't miss this opportunity to at least pass through the first part of this attraction.

Your question reminds me of a funny thing that we did. I told my 10 yo son that he should see the pre-show then he could take the chicken exit. Well, he chickened out on asking for the chicken exit and he ended up riding. He wasn't too happy about it, but he was fine and I think he was glad to be able to say he rode it. Anyway, the exit is not obvious, so I guess you have to ask a CM.

The Pre-Show is wonderful. I finally went with some friends last year that convinced me that I should see it. I told them I would do it only if there was a chicken exit. You will see the whole pre-show and once they load the elevators they will back to the exit where you can wait for the rest of your party. I wish I was going with other people and I would do the pre-show again. Hate doing it when it's only me.

I was afraid to do Tot due to some neck surgery I've had, so I took the chicken exit. I had to stand off to the side for a minute, then a CM escorted me onto the elevator and up to the exit.
Good way to stay with the family for a while longer. Wonder if you could do this on RnR? Or maybe that preshow isn't worth it?!

I too would like to know about R&R. DH will not do that one and DS and I love it. He would very much enjoy the pre-show. Anyone know ??

You can (and I have done) do the same thing on RnR, although teh preshow really isn't that big of a deal. You just wait in line with your party and tell the CM loading vehicles that you're not riding. He/she will direct you to a door off to the side that will take you down a hallway and into the gift shop area where the riders will unload after the ride.
