Can I ride some of MS and skip the rest?

As I've become a "mature woman", I've become much more prone to motion sickness. I'd like to skip the portion of Mission Space where one is launched in the capsule, but it looks like there's more to the ride than that...a preshow and maybe something after? Can I do the beginning and end of the ride and skip the capsule portion??

Thanks,
Corina

You can go through the queue area and then out the chicken exit (no offense intended - this is how I have heard it referred to) to the post-show area. Just inform the CMs you don't want to ride.

The preshow isn't really much of a preshow - basically a video intro after you've waited in the que, but there is an opportunity to exit just before you get into the pods, so if you want to wait on line and then bail, you can.

The exhibits and other stuff that the ride exits into are, I'm pretty sure, accessible from the exit, so you can see them without waiting on any lines.

My little one decided not to ride M:S, so we entered the post-ride area through the exit, no problem. The post-ride area is excellent! There are games you can play there, including a group game and you can make little movies that you can email!

We had a lot of fun there.

Of all of the rides at WDW, this is the one that gave me the most trouble, motion-sickness-wise. The sensation did pass rather quickly, but I've never been troubled by any other attraction. I do, though, avoid the teacups!!

I think I'll wait with ds and dh and then skip the pod and go to the exit stuff. I had an embarrassing experience last time I did teacups (at another park). The ride stopped and I couldn't exit b/c I was so dizzy I couldn't see straight. Took me a couple minutes and I finally crawled out of there.

If you do "opt" out you will go all the way through to the actual point where they board the ride, so don't freak out when they close the doors behind you. Most people do :) The only way out is all the way through so they will bring you right up to the boarding door and the automated speil will say this is your last chance to opt out. As you enter the pre-show you are assigned numbers you will watch the preshow and then go out the doors to the ride bay where you will get on your number, when the CM comes by to load the pod just let him/her know you would like to opt out of the ride and they will escort you to the exit from there. (Most people panic as soon as the pre-show doors close thinking they can't get out... :)
