Can I request a specific room number/surrounding area?

Staying at POP in December and like 50's, lake view, and prefer 1st floor because its easiest.

When I was there a few weeks ago I had requested 50's lake view and got that side of the buidling but couldn't actually see the lake plus we were on the 4th floor and it happened to be an accessible room.
We really did not care for that so we went to ask if there was another room available in that area any floor.
We ended up getting exactly what I had wanted to begin with and I remember the specific room number.
When calling to make a room request for my December trip I'm wondering if it would be better to give the specific room number I want and add "or surrounding rooms" or better to just give 50's lake view again and see what happens.
Basically is being too specific gonna hurt my chances?

You can always ask. But I think it would be wise to put down the room number and then add anything in the surrounding area.

I would keep the request simple and something they can accommodate with multiple rooms/options.

If you get too specific and they don't have it then they may put you about anywhere.

Yep that's my concern.
I don't want to say a specific number and then end up on the other end of the resort lol.
So I guess I will just say 50's lake view again and see what we get.
It was shocking to everyone what room we ended up with at first because the CM did say there was plenty of availability in rooms that would have been more suited for our requests and the fact that we did not need or want an accessible room.
I just hate getting there in the evening happy to walk directly to a room so we can set our stuff down and head out to eat only to find out its a rather disappointing location and going to the front desk anyways.
Prior to last year I never had a problem getting just what I hoped for.

Generally a room is considered to be a lake view/boardwalk view/Magic Kingdom view if you can see just a little piece of that view. So a lake view may have just a tiny little piece of a view of a lake. You might want to ask for several room numbers that is your desired area. If the room you want is 2110, you could request 2110, 1110, 3110, 4110, and 5110. You could also add the rooms on either side if they will be satisfactory like 2108 and 2112 as well as the same location rooms on the other floors.

When I request a room through the Touring Plans fax service (which forces you to choose a specific room number) I always indicate why I'm requesting that room. In the comments I'll say "We requested room XXXX but would be happy with any room in that hallway. If that location isn't available, we would still like to be in that building if possible. And a lake view would be an added bonus." I will also add a sentence as to why we chose that location ("close to food court/bus stops" or "close to elevator", etc.) just to make things easier if our original request isn't available. I've always gotten the room right next to the specific room I've requested.

A second vote for the TouringPlans service. We use it with all of our reservations and have had great success with this service.

My touringplans fax had a range of rooms with a specific floor, building and direction. It looked like this:

Bldg Fantasia,Flr #,#-facing room.Exmple:##11,##12,##13,##14,##15,##16,##17

Exactly as fairestoneofall explained. In your Touring Plans fax, you do choose one room but then the line under it says, this building, facing this direction, and then gives about 6 different room numbers including the one you requested. We have had pretty good luck with it, I think it's your best bet.

Disney world "views" have nothing at all to do with your actual view.
They only mean which way the side of the building is facing.
So you did get what you asked for ... minus the accessible.

Just like I had an AKL Pool View room.
No pool is sight, I only saw the roofs of the restaurants and some rooms across the way.
I was not happy and that was the beginning of me not paying extra for a "view" that is nothing more than a "direction".

Thanks. I just said 50's lake view again. As long as it's that side of the building and not an accessible room it's acceptable to me. I don't pay extra for views. I get standard at POP because I in now that side of the building is standard. It's like why pay for preferred or pool view when I don't even want those rooms.

Totally agree .... POP Standard ... Lake View .......... better than some deluxe view! for a lot less.

50's Lake view are my favorite, spent many trips there, many of them 10+ days. Pretty, peaceful, quiet, firework views AND fast walk to anywhere.
