Can I REALISTICALLY hope to use DVC for 'SNOW-BIRDING'?

Aloha :wave2:

Looking for opinions or real experiences...

If one has enough points to stay in DVC at WDW say, Jan & Feb each year, how hard is it, or will it be, to find availability for that long?

We'd be willing to be flexible with resorts if needed.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Those are not hard times of the year to book DVC accomodations.

IMHO, you will never have a problem booking your home resort at the 11 month window for January through mid-February.

Best wishes -

I would agree with carolMN, with one addendum.

I seem to remember hearing somewhere that there is a maximum # of consecutive days that you can stay in a timeshare. I could be wrong, but why not give MS a call and see if there is some limit?

Worst case scenario, you check out for a day or two and go to the beach for the weekend and then come back!!!

I was at BWV in Jan. of 05 and met a woman that was doing just that. She was booked for all of January, February and some of March. She would book Sunday night through Thursday night at Boardwalk and then go off site for Friday and Saturday nights. She was able to store her luggage at Disney and just travelled with an overnight bag. She seemed quite happy with the set up.

OMG, I think that would drive me totally crazy! I don't even like having to change resorts during a stay, let alone have to do it every week! I'm glad it works for her, but I can't see doing it.

I think there is a 30-consecutive-day limit on staying at a DVC resort. I could definitely see staying 30 days, checking out for a weekend and doing it all over again!!

I'm with you , I'd love to be in a position that I had to change resorts because I had hit the max limit :thumbsup2 but I wouldn't change every week and that way its twice a week cause she moves out for weekends

The back-and-forth, back-and-forth would drive me nuts, too! And we've always had pets (small dogs). We wouldn't want to leave them for that long, and Disney doesn't allow them. But we HAVE talked about a month or 6 weeks in a pet-friendly, off-site vacation home - with a few days at DVC here and there. With APs, DDE and a Golf Card, we'd be set!

I also have to wonder what Disney/DVC thinks of a growing number of DVC resort long-termers as more well-off boomers retire. They'll settle in for a month or two, but they likely won't be spending as much onsite as vacationing families. I don't think DVC was ever intended to be winter-condo destination. Don't get me wrong, if anyone can do it, go for it!
