Next trip is set with a check in planned for 12-14 and check out on 12/21. Ideally, I would like to book a 2 bedroom suite at OKW that is handicapp accessible. This would be for 3 adults, me, my honey, and her mom. Her mom has COPD, diabetes, CHF, and more. She will require the use of a scooter to get around and is a smoker, so wherever we stay, we have to have a room near a DSA, so that she doesn't have to travel far to indulge her last guilty pleasure.

I looked at the 2007 points chart and figured that this trip if held in 2007 would have been worth 220 DVC points. Did anything change in the point structure for 2008?

At what point could a DVC owner book a trip with these dates?

When will the "excess" rooms be made available for booking for non-DVC owners?

TIA I am considering point rental vs an outright booking because our need is so specific. Any help will definately be appreciated. Maggie

Handicap rooms can be booked by DVC owners with points, or with cash through Disney reservations.

Do you specifically need a HA room with roll in shower, lower sinks, etc? Or is she able to get around inside the unit, as long it is on the ground floor so she can wheel the ECV into the room?

If you specifically need a HA modified unit, and are renting points, see if the DVC owner will set up a three way call when he makes the reservation so you can speak with special services, they should be able to block out an HA room for you.

Owners can begin booing that room on Jan 15th (for Dec 14) or book the entire stay on January 21. That is a very popular tavel time for DVCers, so you may need to book day by day, as it looks like at least part of you trip will fall during a school vacation.

Does she actually need a handicapped accessible room?
If she needs a roll in shower (one you can roll a wheelchair right into), she needs a fully wheelchair accessible room. If she needs a raised seat toilet and grab bars, there are handicapped rooms that are not fully wheelchair accessible. The regular 2 bedroom units and the accessible/handicapped units are the same size; the bathroom arrangement is the biggest difference. Any 2 bedroom unit will have enough space inside to park the scooter or even drive it around inside.

If all she needs is to be able to get into the room without going up stairs, then requesting "Ground Floor for Medical Reasons" will give more chance of getting a location you want. There are lots of 2 bedroom units, but not that many of them are handicapped accessible. So, it's very possible that there is not a handicapped accessible 2 bedroom in the location you are looking for, but there are a number of regular 2 bedroom units that would fit.

I think it might be 230 points

22-sun 14th
24-mon 15th
24-tues 16th
24-wed 17th
24-thur 18th
56-fri 19th
56 sat 20th

a okw member can book this 11 months in advance if you want to try to rent it

a non okw dvc member can book 7 months in advance

for that time of year I would highky suggest finding an okw member if you go the rental route

While she would never admit it, yes, she needs the extra grab bars and the raised potty. As of right now, she doesn't need a roll in shower, but that could change by the time another year passes. We will have to wait and see.

At the very least, we need a ground floor room with some extras. I really hope that we can find some pixie dust to make this happen. Thank you all for your input. Maggie
