Can I pack a sound machine in my carry on luggage?

Why not? Just don't be surprised if it gets stolen along the way. You can carry it on. There's prohibition on electronics.

She asked if she could pack it in her 'carry on'. She didn't say anything about putting it in her checked bag.:confused3

OP: Yes you can carry it on. I too must have white noise to sleep and never go anywhere without my white noise machine. I usually put it in my carry on, but have also put it in my checked bag and have never had a problem. I fly with mine maybe 5-6 times a year.

Off topic, but: I picked mine up at Wal Mart for alot cheaper though. I have two and think I paid less than $15.00 for each of them, so if someone did steal one out of my checked bag, it wouldn't be that big of a deal to replace it. They are both Conair and have like ten sounds to choose from (white noise, rainforest, thunder storm, summer night, ocean waves, heartbeat, songbirds, train, running stream, and rain falling). I've seen the same ones at Target for less than $20.00 too.

OOPS! Sorry all. I must have been coffee deficient at the time.

You can carry it on. I sometimes put mine in my carry on and other times put it in my checked bag. When we flew on 3/30, they put my bag through additional screening because of the noise machine. It wasn't a big deal -- little airport, nice TSA agents -- but I was surprised because that had never happened before.

Remember, too, that the white noise App on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod works well. I knew our resort (Pop Century) didn't have the docking station and I wasn't sure how the electrical plug configuration was set up (I've only stayed there 5 times), so I brought my machine to be safe. We would have been fine with our i's only. Younger people think of that, me -- not so much. The deluxe resorts have the docking station.

Good to know! I plan on bringing mine this time too. I also have the Conair one and it's been going strong for 10 years. I think I paid 15 for it back then:)

If you have a smartphone, you can download white noise-type "songs" and play them on repeat during the night.
