Hi. This is probably a dumb question, but I haven't flown in a long time, and I couldn't find an answer online anywhere: my family uses desk fans as white noise machines to sleep at night. Can I pack a couple in my checked bag, or will it look wierd to the x-ray people who screen the luggage? I don't want any problems at the airport...but we also need the background noise to sleep at night.

(Do the resorts have fans that guests can request?)

Thanks!

Sure. That should be OK.I've packed alot of interesting things in my suitcase and there wasn't any problem. As long as what your packing is not flammable or aerosol.
Have a good one!

Note that anytime you carry-on "weird" electronics, there's a decent chance for a swipe test. If it happens, it's no big deal. They will pull you aside, open your bag, swipe a piece of cloth over the fan, then run the cloth through a scanner. Takes less than a minute - nothing to worry about.

omg i do the same thing can't sleep without noise lol !! we went on a cruise in feburary and i brought it on the plane with me. i didn't check it to go under the plane because it looks a little on the stranger side so i would rather them open my luggage in front of me than my checked bags and mess up my clothes. oh btw, they definitly checked my carryon going through security and relized it was a fan :rolleyes1

Hi. Thanks for the responses.

The reason I want to check the bag is because I wasn't planning on bringing a carry-on except our backpacks (containing a few essentials and a bunch of toys for the kids.) With two toddlers, we have our hands full! Of course, that means I won't be there if they want to evaluate the checked baggage further. How does that work? :confused3 Should I leave the siutcase unlocked and let them go through it if they want? There won't be anything of value in it.

I can't believe I am so confused by this!

You need to leave the checked luggage unlocked anyway, or else they will cut the locks. There are also TSA-approved locks where they have the master. Your fans will be fine in the checked luggage.

Sure you can but it is heavy and/or bulky why not pack it & check it?
Have you ever looked into that small digital clock that has a white noise option plus brooks, rain, etc. My cousin has one and loves it plus it is very small and it was great on a cruise when the room had no clock at all.

Yes you can - we checked a fan in feb for our cruise for white noise, and no trouble at all!!!
