Can I make Two Reservations and Decide Later?

So if we go just our family of 5 I was thinking Contemporary.

If the Aunt comes with us TWO rooms at the Wilderness Lodge.

AT WL we would have to have 2 rooms for the five of us (if I am understanding correctly).

Can I book 2 different reservations the cancel one? How using different names etc?

It's our first trip to DW - went one day to DL in Summer.

Kids 10, 7, 4
Four days in February 2/14-2/17 to merge into husband's conference at another hotel later

I haven't done it with resort reservations, but if it's like the dining system, you'll be warned that you have two overlapping reservations.

You can have more then one reservation, however you can not use the same primary guests for both of them.

I had two reservations...I had a package reserved at ASMo and then about a week later I booked a package at Pop...put a deposit on both and I was the primary guest on both. I just called last week and canceled the one I didn't want. No problems...as long as it was prior to the 45 days from arrival point, I could cancel with no penalty. When I called to cancel, the CM was like...Oh no, too bad you have to cancel. I then explained to her that I was still coming and had another ressie at a different resort. Maybe you can't make 2 if they are at the same resort with the same primary guest?

You cannot make two reservations for the same week with the same primary name on the reservation, at any of the resorts. So you also cannot book one room at WL and one room at POR in the same week under the same name. It is considered double-booking and Disney knows they are going to miss out on a booking, because it is obvious you have double-booked and are going to cancel one - whether it is at the same resort or two different resorts.

Possible or not I think the main question is if it would bother you when you would like to make a reservation and was told no because many guests have a ghost or back up reservation.
If you would think : okay others like to decide the last minute were to stay or just wait until there family decides whether to join them or not I suppose two or who cares five ghost reservations would be fine.
On the other hand if this would annoy you than it would be strange if you yourself would do this.

Oh nonsense. I just made a long reservation and shortened it when I found a better deal. Is that cheating the system? You have to do what works for you while working within their cancellation policies. There is no moral code to booking hotel rooms. That's silly.

Yes, that is very different than booking two different reservations at two different resorts, knowing you are going to cancel one.

There are about 31,000 rooms at Disney (or is it 33,000). If in one week, people double and tripled booked, knowing they were going to cancel at least one, if not two of them, look how empty it would be. And look at the people who had wanted to get reservations and couldn't, because all the rooms were tied up. There is a moral code to booking resorts rooms.

Last year, there was a way to double/triple book dining reservations online. I don't know if it is still the same way now, but it was last year. I was shocked when I got to restaurants and they were half empty, even though I had to try a few times to get that slot. Seems many tables were booked and not used, because people made multiple reservations because they couldn't decide which park they were going to be in that day.

It is all about at least breaking even and Disney cannot make money for its stockholders if people were allowed to double and triple book.

Personally I don't agree with it because as you said it prevents another family from getting a reservation at one of the WDW Resorts, because what if the family with two reservations got the last room available. I know that guests can not make two ADR's for two different restaurants at the sametime because if WDW finds out then they will cancel both ADR's and it's not fair to the other guests, so how is making two resort reservations any different?

I am glad to hear that. Last year, the system was new and had a glitch in it that allowed you to do multiple bookings for ADR's. It was sad to go in some places, where I had looked and looked for reservations every day - and to see the place half empty. Most likely due to multiple bookings

You still can. A warning flashes up telling you that you are double booking and should cancel one. However, it gives you the choice to cancel the first one (and keep the one you are making) or keeping them both. I believe a warning shows up on your listing, but you can ignore it. There are reports, however, of the system "cleaning up" bookings and deleting double bookings.

When I make a change, I never canel my first one, until I've made the new booking, so I double book (but only for about 5 minutes).

I asked this in the other thread... Disney MUST track reservations based on something other than name. In my small (~33K) town, my DD shares the first and last name of a girl that attends another school. So what do they use?

Well, yes you can, because I did. To further clarify...I went online to make a reservation with free dining. I didn't choose a resort...just the value category and ASMo is what came up, along with offers for moderate resorts. So I booked the ASMo thinking it must be the only value available with the free dining since the other offers it showed were for moderate resorts. Then I read some negative reviews on the property and decided I might want to stay somewhere else. Searched again and ASMo still came up, but then I discovered I could choose the resort(hadn't seen this the first time). So I selected Pop, and made the reservation...under the same exact name for the same exact dates...so yes, it can be done. If you could cancel reservations online, I would have done so at that time. Since you have to call, I put it off for a few days...a week at most. Dates are still available at these resorts with free dining...no harm done. People make reservations then cancel them...happens all the time. They find a deal and reserve it and then figure out if they can go.
