Can I make my resort ressie this way?

Bear with me. . . . we haven't done Disney in about 8 years! My daughter wants to do a graduation trip to WDW, and I'm all on board (better with me than drinking on a beach with a bunch of rowdy friends!). Is it possible to make my reservation at the resort now--room only--then upgrade it to a package next month when I have the cash? I'd like to make sure I have a room (3rd week of May). Thanks!

You can modify the reservation from room only to package but depending on the resort the deposit may be more on a room only than a package. A package deposit will be $200 and room only will be one nights total that you have to pay at the time of booking.

The pp is correct that you can book now and change later, but the RO will have to be cancelled/refunded and a package booked, requiring a new $200 deposit (or payment in full if you are 30 days or less from arrival at time of booking). Since RO and packages are different reservation systems, it's not as easy as just making RO a package as money paid toward one cannot be applied to the other.

You can but there is no advantage to it. As @mickeynut1 said, they are 2 separate reservations systems. You will have to cancel the room only and book a package, if a room is available at that time.
