We have FW ressies Jan 11-25th , we did room only because we plan on buying AP's . I am new to the whole "My Disney experience" and don't quite understand if we will be able to make fast pass reservations if we don't have the AP's yet. If we buy them now will the renewal be from purchase date or is it from initial use?
Should we just add park hoppers and upgrade when we get there to AP's? My hesitation is that we financially ended up paying for the wedding, reception, and honeymoon for our daughter unexpectedly and we are not sure if our dream trip will happen. Crunching numbers and considering postponing it. My husband and I both turn 50 on Jan 14th and we really are hoping to spend 2 weeks in FW and 2 or more at Tropical Palms. The really tricky part is we live in Eastern Oregon.....

That just went into random run on TMI... Sorry.

Unfortunately no you cannot make FP+ without valid park admission in your MDE account. I can't answer about renewals and purchase dates, but I do know a lot of people buy their tickets ahead of time and then upgrade after the first use. Good luck! I hope you get to take your trip and congrats on your new son-in-law!

Thanks Ruthies! He's a great guy and they at least honeymooned in the right place we sent them to DL and they stayed in the DLH!

I want to go ahead and buy our AP's if they go by day if first use, since God as my witness I will get there someday...(in my best Gone With Thw Wind accent...)

You can purchase the AP early, you get a certificate to "pick up" and activate them. I did confirm that with Disney, but I forgot to ask how FP+ would work as we do not want ours to activate until Feb 2016. Maybe need to give them a call and ask.

When I bought my first one a few years ago I was able to make FP before I activated them. The time starts from when you activate them but they are already linked in MDE when you buy them.

We have annual passes, and on the first one ( first time using) we had to activate them via telephone call. Then we're able to make fast passes, 60 days out. However your annual passes are not ( activated for one year renewal, until the first day you step in the park. Hope this makes sense. Purchase your AP, they will be mailed to you, they are like a voucher. Then activate them, and make fast passes. I believe you will need to stop at Guest Services to get the "real ones" such as the Magic Kingdom, etc.

Thanks for that information! We where not sure how that piece of the puzzle worked, just knew we could buy now and activate on first use without loosing all that time.

this is good to know. I normally get tickets when we get there. didn't realize that you had to have them linked to your account before you could make fp+ressies.

While listening to the DIS today I also learned that now they offer the installment plan for AP's for everyone , not just Fl residents. News to me!
