Can I make an allergy request or no?

we are taking my 4 year old for brunch at chef mickeys. I know they have the allergy friendly brochure now but does anybody know or have experience with making special requests? My daughter saw chicken strips and mac and cheese on the menu so I was wondering if they can make a gluten free order for her? Thanks for any help and insight!

Did you look at the allergy menu? Are those things on it? They are excellent with helping where they can. If they do not have gluten free pasta or gluten free chicken strips in the kitchen, they can not accommodate your request.
Certainly note the allergy on your ADR. They will do their best for you.
Good Luck

When you make your ressie note the allergy and any requests. When you arrive, ask... they may not be able to accommodate every request, but they will surely try!

Thanks for the info! I did look at the brochure and they aren't listed but it does have a notice to ask for a chef for any requests they might be able to accommodate. I'll definitely ask but I'm sure she will be so happy with the characters to not notice!

You can email Special.Diets@DisneyWorld.com with your ADR date, time, and confirmation number to make special requests. They forward the info directly to the chef. This may allow the chef to procure specific gf items in advance of your visit. It's not a guarantee, but it can't hurt to ask.

I have an allergy to onions and when I went last year they gave me the allergy menu. I explained to my server what the allergy was and at most places the chef came out to speak with me. I met with the chef at Be Our Guest, 1900 Park Fare, Coral Reef, Via Napoli, Chefs de France and Liberty Tree Tavern. All of them discussed options on the menu that I could have or what they could make me. They were very accommodating! They only bad experience I had was Mama Melrose. They checked with the chef about onions said I was all clear but we had an issue. However that was the only place...

It really depends on both the chef you deal with at the time and what ingredients they have available. We have very complex allergies, so the allergy menu really doesn't help us at all. We also have to do a little advanced prep to make sure they have safe options available for my kids. While we have had a few instances of going above and beyond and making something like a special batch of cookies (when no baked dessert or "allergy friendly" option was deemed safe) it's normally pretty dependent on what's available to them. Chicken fingers for example would require a GF breading and a fryer used exclusively for GF products. It doesn't seem like many Disney restaurants have a dedicated fryer from my own experience. For mac and cheese they'd have to have GF pasta on hand (which they likely do) but also have to have GF sauce or be willing to make a cheese sauce from scratch. If their cheese sauce is made in huge batches prior to opening they may not be able to guarantee it wasn't contaminated with gluten at any point.

And even when we make advanced preparations and speak to the chefs and plan out meals we still occasionally get to our ADR to find out that they were unable to obtain something that we discussed and have had to make changes. So if you are able to submit a request don't expect it to be a guarantee they will have it for you when you arrive. They do an amazing job with allergies, but considering the sheer number of requests they have to manage I wouldn't have too high of hopes for special GF items.

Also look at the regular menu. I have been given the allergy menu instead of the regular (DH gets the regular) and almost always half of it has seafood to which I am allergic and I still have to ask about spinach to which I am also allergic. It lists common allergies and items that meet those allergies but just because you have allergies doesn't mean that you can eat everything (or anything) on it. I would typically compare the regular menu with the allergy menu and most of the time would order off the regular one after asking appropriate questions. While they may not necessarily be able to accommodate GF chicken tenders, for example, there may be things on the regular menu that are GF that she may like or which can be made GF if they have the ingredients or they are not pre-prepared.
