Booked through Travelocity though!! I expect I could have them put it on my reservation or otherwise I could e-mail the room controller direct on the day before? Has anyone who has stayed in a standard room got any recommendations? Is there a hotel room layout plan online anywhere? Has anyone else booked similarly through Travelocity and where have you been put?

Hope to get some replies!

Debbie

I have never stayed at RPH but I can suggest you call the hotel directly with any requests and ask for guest services when you call. Also just for your information in the future if it's possible call 45-60 days out because the rooms have not yet been assigned yet so you have a better chance of getting your requests honored if it's a busy season for them. Good Luck maybe someone can you room suggests on what you might like to look at or request while your they. Oh and they have a butler by phone it's called star services >LOL Use that for everything! We loved it, made ressies and got extra robes just anything you want they'll make it happen or let you talk to someone that will make it happen.

We just got back this week from Two days at the Hard Rock/Royal Pacific, five at the Boardwalk, then two at the Royal Pacific.
The first two nights at the Hard Rock we had two pool view rooms reserved , and at the Royal Pacific two pool view room non-smoking rooms reserved. We received four garden view rooms, with a smoking room at the Royal Pacific. Showed them the paperwork, but too bad.

The next weekend at the Royal Pacific, we had three rooms, all pool view reserved. We got 3 garden views. It seems Nike had a convention and as the CM at the desk told us took all of the pool view rooms. We did pay for the Loews upgrade for one of the rooms to get a suite, but not pool view. I guess it was ok that we were not looking at the pool because someone also reserved a private party at the pool, and it was closed for the guests at 5 pm. Parks close at 6 , so we figured we would go back and swim afterwards, wrong. I asked why they didn't tell us it would be closed when we called to confirm our "Pool view" rooms earlier in the week, and the manager told me that would be a bad "business decision" because we would have canceled our reservations. I think this guy must have sold used cars in the past.

The next day pool open, pool bar closed, Jakes pool side bar closed private party. Manager told us we should have known it was the convention time of the year, ( is there a calendar we can buy to let us know this?) but lucky us, we could walk up to the third floor to get drinks to bring down, but all the adults must be present. Amenities are great.

Trip was great though, last two days at Royal Pacific just left a bad taste in our mouths. We had great prices at the Animal Kingdom lodge, but the kids wanted to do the Dive in Movie and the great pool they advertise at the Royal Pacific. It would have been nice had they let us know before we checked in that we couldn't use the pool. They said we could drive or take a boat to the other hotel pools, but if wanted to do that we would have stayed there. Something about getting in a van or boat and driving to a pool in your bathing suit, walking through the lobby, too much work.

So the answer to your question, can you request something, yes, is it guaranteed, nope. Kinda like the Seinfeld episode, "anyone can take a resv., the most important thing is to HOOOld the resv."
The resort WAS very nice, but I've never stayed in a resort, where a group of people could close the pool to the other paying customers, just very odd.
Definitely call before you check in, to check to see if any of the amenities you were paying for are off limits to you, like the pool, pool bar, restaraunts etc...

I'm confused about when the rooms are assigned. When we were at Disney Beach Club last year, we faxed our requests 4 days out, just like the message board advised. But when we got there, the desk CM selected the room for us, asking if we wanted a smoking room, etc. I said I'd like a full bvalcony if possible (which I mentioned in my fax). She did a lot of typing on the computer, said none were available, and gave us a free upgrade to a first floor waterview with a patio!
So who really has the power, the room assigner days or weeks before check-in,or the desk CM AT check-in?

Peterd,
That's really a shame at RP, I would have been pissed! This has happened to me several times at resorts, I hate it! It has happened at the Contemporary and just this past summer at the Bahia Mar in Ft. Lauderdale! They just close the pool! Close restaurants, I think you shoud be told ahead of time. I guess in the future I will ask if there is a convention at the same time. That's the good thing about PBH and other resorts with more then one restaurant or pool.

I was also at RPR during Nike convention. Upon checking in I was told that even though I made my room reservation 6 months ago and they had my deposit for 4 months the pool view rooms were all taken by Nike and I would have to take the garden view, which was actually mostly highway view. I was angry and got no satisfaction from them and will never stay at RPR again. The hotel is nice, but food is way overpriced. STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE.:( :(

We are staying at RPH Dec 10 - 14. I booked through expedia and asked for a non-smoking room but after reading the above posts I thought I'd better call. Talked to Meaghan in guest services and she confirmed my non-smoking room. I'll let you know what I get when I come back!

It is a very nice resort. I would call and ask if there are any conventions going on at the time, if it's sold out, and if there are any scheduled closings of the pool or any of the other amenities.

I doubt that we'll use the pool or even eat at the resort. As long as we have a non-smoking room, I'll be happy.

I just booked a nonsmoking room on the lower floor if possible. I don't care what view I get, we don't stay much in the room anyway, but I just quit smoking 4 months ago, and the smell still kind of make me queasy.

Do the pool view rooms cost more? Or is it just a request? I know there are 2 categories of rooms, but I can't remember the one besides standard!

It sounds like they really have an attitude problem there. :( Are we now responsible for planning our vacations in between conventions? Isn't Orlando one of the top convention destinations in the country? How should we know when Nike or anyone else will be taking over all of the hotel's facilities?

The same thing happens at Disney hotels. The difference there is that the convention hotels have more than one pool, so you can still go swimming somewhere. I'd be very upset too.

The girls I got on the phone this morn were great, two different ones cause I wanted to add a night onto my first ressie.
She asked me if I wanted a waterview because it was the same price as garden so I said ok. But it does not matter to us, we have stayed in poolview at HRH twice now and I don't think we spent too much time looking out the window. Now if they had balconys or patios, that would be an entirely different story!!
I am sure we will love it, no matter what.
