Can I make a ressie through the resort directly?

Do I have to call 1-407-WDISNEY or can I just call the resort directly? I thought I read that somewhere. I don't particularly care for the policy of paying for my stay 45(?) days out. I want to pay when I leave the resort. That's what I have for my current ressie at the Dolphin. I'm considering changing to Pop Century or ASMo so we can have two rooms(we have 5 going next June).

You can't make a reservation with the resort directly, but you can make a regular cancellable up until 5 days before arrival one through central reservations. Just tell them that you want to deal with central reservations, not Disney travel, because you don't want to pay 45 days in advance.

One little piece of bad news, though -- you pay for Disney resorts at check-in not check-out. Rooms and tickets are charged immediately while stuff you charge to your room (other than e-night tix, etc.) are charged at checkout or when you reach your limit.

a little off the topic, but I have never heard of any resort that lets you pay when you check out. The room is usually paid upon check-in (not counting the one night advance deposit) & then incidentals are at check out... and that is basically any hotel/motel and/or resorts

Yes, I understand that & that's really what I meant. I just don't want to pay in full 45 days out. However, when I booked the Dolphin, I asked if I would pay for my balance when I arrived & she said, "Well it's actually when you leave." ??? Nevertheless, thanks for the help.
