Can I make a reservation with no points in my account?

Hi there,
I’m in the middle of attempting to purchase my very first DVC resale contract. It comes with no points, but is set to receive points in August of this year.

I don’t have an account yet and am waiting for the sale to close, but should soon.

The question is, even though I will currently not have any points, can I (attempt) to make a reservation for August, or even into spring 2022 with zero points in my account?

It all depends on your Use Year and how many points are available to borrow.

Yes with August UY you will have points to use for a reservation after August as long as it is not stripped contract. If it has no August 2021 UY points, it will have to be a reservation after Aug 2022.

Sounds like you have an August use year. Your points will be good to use for any reservation that begins no earlier than August 1, 2021 or ends no later than the night of July 31, 2022. You will be able to make a reservation using those points as soon as your membership is fully loaded into the DVC system. You will not have to wait until August to make your reservation.

As soon as the contract and points are loaded, you have all your points. Everything is based on points you will have when the trip will take place and not when you call,

This will be true all the time. So, with an Aug UY and your first set being Aug 2021, you can make a reservation beginning August 1st or later as soon as your contract is set up and you see points there for the membership.

Wait wait, I'm confused because one person seemed to say you needed the points in your account and Marionette disputed that. Let's say I buy a contract with a February UY in the next few weeks. If I wanted to go on a Disney trip in March, would I be able to do that?

Yes, you would be able to do that. Because the points will be in your account February 1, so any date after that can be booked. It’s based on how many points you will have in your account at the time the trip takes place.

Points in account means the contract has been completely loaded. The way it works is first MA sets up a shell for the new contract, Once the shell is created, then they add the points to the account.

You don’t need to wait until the UY begins that has the points to start to book, but you do need to wait until the points for the entire contract have been added to that shell.
