We've never been to DQ before. Our dd will be 9 and 8 when we go in June. Do we need to all hang out as a family or is there an area where the dds can be and me and dh can go on our own too? I'm not about leaving my kids unsupervised or anything...just wondering how big the place is and how safe.

Thanks.

Carmen

DQ is several floors with games and such on each floor. I personally would be nervous about allowing my children to go on their own without supervision at this age. It's a shame that we have to think this way in todays time but with your children on one floor and you on another, you just never know what could happen to them. I would wait until your children are more middle school age before leaving them alone.

There may be some here that may think I am overprotective, but even though you are in the happiest place on earth - I still need my kids in my sight.

Have a good holiday today!!

DQ is pretty big....4 or 5 levels to it. I think I would just stick together. To me 8 and 9 seems a little young to be alone. I would be worried and nervous also if they were out of my site.
Mine were teens before they got to do anything without us.

We have been to DQ several times, my kids are 6 an 8 and I would not let them alone in there for at least a few more years. I think 8 and 9 is still a bit young, but you know your own kids.

I feel the same way as the previous posters. My 15 year old DS begged me to go to DQ by himself while I went to the nearby shops.
I know it sounds paranoid but I was a nervous wreck the entire time. He wanted to be independent for a couple of hours so I gave in. Keep a very close watch on your girls...this place is huge.::MinnieMo

There is no "supervised kid area" at DQ, so if you left them on their own, there wouldn't be any other "official" adult looking out for them. Look at it this way ... if you went to the local mall, would you let your kids hang out in the arcade by themselves while you and your husband went to the food court on another floor? If the answer to that question is "yes", then you can leave them on their own at DQ.

However ... as others have said ... I think 8 and 9 are too young to be left on their own, even at Disney.

I would say 6th or 7th grade at least. About the same age I let her go to the movies with her friends - and even then they'd have to stick together!

I agree with the others, they are probably too young to be there alone.

When my DS was 15 we left him there alone for the first time. He was given strict orders not to leave for any reason (well, other than an emergency evacuation of course). We were there waiting at the only exit at about 11:45, it closed at midnight, and at midnight on the dot he came strolling out. When he turned 16 we started letting him go alone.

Last time we went had my DD who was turning 10, two other kids 9 and 11. They could do whatever they liked but could not go to any other floor. We started at the top and would given them some time to do everything, find them and then we'd move to 4th floor. If there was a place I would be staying while on that floor, would tell them. When I thought enough time had passed would find them again and move to 3rd, etc. We did the same year before w/just dd and I when she was 9.

Figured I can't follow them around the whole time and as long as they stayed on the same floor I could find them quickly or they could find me.

You'd have to trust them to do as told but under threat of leaving immediately if they disobeyed, and so much to do, I don't think they were tempted to leave the floor.

Maybe that will work for you....Sharon

I don't remember where I saw this info, but WDW has age restrictions for children to be without parent/guardian. I think I might have seen it on Disney's official website, on the ticket page...

Schmeck, off to find the info!

I found the info, but it was on the annual passholder site. Here's a quote:

"Persons under the age of 10 years must be accompanied by a person over the age of 21 years while attending Walt Disney World® Water parks and the DisneyQuest® Indoor Interactive Theme Park. Persons under the age of 7 years must be accompanied by a person over the age of 21 years when attending the Magic Kingdom® Park, Epcot®, Disney-MGM Studios or Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park."

So, by the sound of it, I could let an 8 yr old go to MK by herself?
